About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and experienced specialist teacher to contribute to the success of the Autism Outreach and Learning Support Team as Team Manager. The successful candidate will provide operational and strategic leadership to ensure high-quality evidence-based support for children and young people with SEND across Leicestershire strengthening inclusive practice in mainstream settings and improving outcomes at both pupil and system level.

The Autism Outreach and Learning Support Team is a well-regarded and welcoming team. As part of the Specialist Teaching Service staff work in partnership with mainstream schools families and a wide range of agencies to provide evidence-based training and advice alongside coaching and modelling of inclusive practice for pupils in Key Stages 15.

This leadership role includes providing effective performance management for staff leading the review and development of service delivery and coordinating resources to meet wideranging and evolving demands.

You will lead and support staff who hold individual caseloads and provide advice and information as part of Education Health and Care needs assessments. As such you will be confident in quality assuring professional advice and recommendations for children and young people with a diagnosis of autism or communication and interaction needs their families and educational settings within a multi-agency context. You will also have proven knowledge and skills in approaches to support learners with cognition and learning needs.

You will play a key leadership role in innovating and implementing service developments linked to changes in referral criteria and national SEND reforms requiring strong skills and experience in developing and leading change working in partnership with schools and other agencies and evaluating impact.

Support will be provided by our other STS Team Managers Service Manager and knowledgeable Autism Outreach and Learning Support Team. There will be a wide range of professional development including access to training and mentoring.

Please note: LCC provisions for annual leave apply to staff on Leadership scales. Full-time employees are entitled to 27 days (below 5 continuous years service) or 32 days (above 5 years continuous service) plus 8 nominated days for public holidays. Employees on Leadership scale will also be entitled to an additional 10 days annual leave which can be taken in term time.

About You

To apply for this post you must:

  • Degree level qualification and Qualified Teacher Status with evidence of further training and development such as a specialist qualification
  • Leadership experience in monitoring evaluating reviewing and developing team performance including experience of effective management in theappointment professional development and deployment of staff.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning approaches including training delivery to support the attainment and inclusion of pupils with SEND particularly pupils with a diagnosis of Autism or Communication and Interaction needs.
  • Experience of working in partnership with schools other support services and agencies to improve outcomes for pupils.
  • Significant experience of working appropriately in accordance with relevant statutory and local policies and procedures for SEND and the ability carry out all duties in line with LCC Safeguarding policies and procedures and fulfil relevant safeguarding competencies.
  • Ability to actively demonstrate the values of the authority: Positivity; Trust and respect; Flexibility; Openness and transparency.
  • Must be able to perform all duties and tasks with reasonable adjustment where appropriate in accordance with the provisions of the Equality Act will include requirements to work flexibly around holiday periods in line with the service requirements and access to a vehicle with the ability to travel to temporary bases such as schools touch-down bases etc.
