Job Summary

The School of Molecular Sciences (SMS) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for a full-time nine-month Instructor position with an anticipated start date of August 2026. This is a full-time benefits-eligible non-tenure eligible position renewable on an academic year basis (Aug 16 - May 15) contingent upon satisfactory performance availability of resources and the needs of the university.

The School of Molecular Sciences at Arizona State University is an organization of more than 65 faculty members 100 staff and 2000 graduate and undergraduate students who work at the forefront of science and technology innovation and education. This includes approximately 1800 undergraduate students (immersion and online) spread across three bachelors degrees in biochemistry and three in chemistry. Essential Functions:

  • Leading organic chemistry laboratory sections
  • Coordinating with the chemical stockroom for experiment preparation
  • Assist in testing and developing new experiments
  • Participating in the training and supervision of graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants for both immersion and online courses

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in chemistry or closely related technical science and engineering field by time of appointment
  • One year of teaching or teaching assistant experience at the college level
  • Evidence of strong organizational and written/verbal communication skills reflected in the submitted application materials

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior teaching experience in Organic Chemistry
  • Effective teaching ability (as evidenced by peer and/or student reviews)
  • Experience with curriculum development
  • Experience with non-traditional models of instruction (i.e. collaborative learning and guided inquiry)
  • Multimedia presentation skills and aptitude for emerging technologies in content delivery
  • Evidence of supervisory/peer mentoring experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving and understanding the particular needs of online students
  • Evidence of collaborative activities with other faculty and staff
  • Participation in the higher education community and professional development activities (for example presenting at conferences attending workshops etc.)
  • Organizational and communication skills (as evidenced by the completed application materials)
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty staff students and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter.
