DESCRIPTION: This is machine and trades work in operating motor-driven wheel and track mounted equipment which requires no higher than a Class B license for operation on a public highway. Responsibilities include operating fueling and performing routine maintenance on assigned vehicles and devices such as cranes conveyors shovels and loaders mounted thereon. Work is performed under general supervision. REPRESENTATIVETASKS: Operates light and medium duty trucks in order to haul freight gravel snow and other material from one location to another or to perform tasks such as plowing snow. Fills tank with material and operates equipment in order to apply oils asphalt and tars to roadways and parking areas. Operates truck mounted winches and cranes in order to load and unload material. Fills fuel tanks adds lubricating oils and completes various other tasks in order to maintain equipment in good order. Repairs or assists mechanic in repairing assigned equipment in order to restore it to service as quickly as possible. KNOWLEDGESSKILLSANDABILITIESREQUIRED: Knowledge of the operation maintenance and use of assigned heavy motor equipment and attached devices. Knowledge of state laws pertaining to the operation of motor vehicles upon the highway. Knowledge of occupational hazards involved and safety precautions necessary in the operation of assigned heavy motor driven equipment. Ability to perform routine maintenance and repair on assigned equipment. Ability to supervise a small crew in maintenance and operational activities. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work long hours operating heavy equipment in adverse weather conditions. MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS: Possession of the above knowledges and abilities. LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATIONREQUIREMENTS: A valid Maine Class B motor vehicle operators license may be required depending on equipment to be operated and the circumstances of its use. Operators of off-the-road vehicles do not need a Class B license.
