Position Title: Community Programs & Engagement Assistant

Position Overview:
The Community Programs & Engagement Assistant will support ANIDAs food bank operations through a balance of volunteer coordination community engagement client services and program support. This role provides hands-on experience in food security programming while contributing directly to the delivery and development of community-based services.

The selected candidate will help ensure smooth food bank operations by assisting with volunteer activities supporting client services and maintaining a welcoming and organized environment. A key responsibility of this role is leading thedevelopment and implementation of Bread Nighta weekly food recovery initiative. This includes managing registration systems shaping participant experience and supporting the introduction of a paid community participation model.

The role also contributes to environmental stewardship initiatives including the maintenance of aCommunity Garden as well as program tracking reporting and client feedback processes to help strengthen service delivery and improve overall impact.

This position plays an important role in enhancing community connections improving operational efficiency and supporting the development of sustainable community-driven food security programs.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Volunteer & Community Engagement (35%)

• Coordinate and support volunteers including corporate groups and program partners.
• Welcome and guide corporate volunteers ensuring a meaningful and organized experience.
• Assist in facilitating participation for community partners.
• Support the coordination and growth ofBread Nighta weekly food recovery initiative including managing registrations participant experience and event flow
• Assist in implementing apaid registration modelfor Bread Night including event setup tracking participation and supporting overall execution
• Help organize volunteer schedules and daily task assignments.

2. Community Food Bank Operations (30%)

• Support the daily operations of the food bank ensuring a smooth and organized workflow.
• Assist with food sorting packaging and distribution.
• Help maintain a clean safe and welcoming environment for clients and volunteers.
• Support client intake processes including registration and appointment coordination.

3. Environmental Stewardship Initiatives (20%)

• Support food recovery efforts through partnerships that reduce food waste.
• Assist with tracking and reporting on food diversion activities.
• Support the development of a composting initiative behind the food bank further reducing organic waste and contributing to environmentally friendly practices.
• Support the implementation of a Community Garden with our partner Christian Horizons working alongside adults with diverse abilities in an inclusive hands-on outdoor environment.

4. Program Support & Client Services (15%)

• Assist with data entry reporting and maintaining accurate program records.
• Support tracking of program participation outcomes and service usage using systems such as Link2Feed.
• Gather client feedback to assess satisfaction and identify areas for improvement in service delivery.
• Assist in identifying client needs to support the continuous improvement of food bank services.

Learning Outcomes:

• Gain hands-on experience in community engagement volunteer coordination and nonprofit operations.

• Develop knowledge of food security systems and community-based service delivery.
• Increase awareness of environmental sustainability practices within nonprofit programs.

Requirements:

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Organized dependable and able to take initiative.
• Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Interest in community service food security and nonprofit work.
• Comfortable engaging with diverse populations respectfully and inclusively.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting.
• Has at least a G2 licence and is comfortable driving a company cargo van.

Position Details:
Hours:35 hours/week 5 hours unpaid break
Wage:$18.60/hour
Schedule:June 1st 2026 July 23rd 2026 (8 weeks)

Days: Monday Tuesday & Thursday (8:00 am - 6:00 pm) Wednesday (11:30 am 9:30 pm)
