AsLegal Counsel/Senior Legal Counsel you will report to the Associate General Counsel as part of a team offive lawyers.

Sitting within theEnterprise Services Group your work will contribute to our purpose of driving RBNZs strategicobjectives. Your role has an important impact through the delivery oflegal advicethat enhancesRBNZs reputation and helpsus deliver on our priorities.

The Legal team are highly regarded within RBNZ andareactively sought outtoadvise ona wide range ofmatters across work alongside senior leaders policy expertsoperationalteamsand supervisors on issues that matterfinancialstabilityandresilience regulatory reform monetarypolicyandaccess to cash. Your advice will directly inform critical decisions thatimpacttheNew Zealandeconomy.

In this role you will:

  • Act as a corporate legal adviser to the Bank under the direction and guidance of theRBNZsGeneral CounselandAssociate General Counselandin accordance withtheRBNZsLegal Services Charter and Lawyers Conduct and Client Care rules.

  • Providetimelyand high-qualitylegal services to the Reserve Bank and advice on:

  • Statutory interpretation.

  • Options under legislation available toRBNZin the pursuit of its regulatory functions.

  • Public law issuesand other general corporate matters.

  • RBNZs functions and operationspowersand obligations under relevant legislation including in respect of its payment systems issuance of currency and monetary policy as well as legal advice on general corporate matters.

We are looking for a collaborative team member who can work effectively under pressure manage competingprioritiesand meet be successful in this role you willbring:

  • Atleast 4 yearsPQE in the public sector a financial institution or regulatory body with a current New Zealand practicing certificate

  • Strong statutory interpretation skills and an understanding of the regulatory environment

  • Apragmatic solutions-focussedand client-centricapproach to delivering legal advice

  • High qualitywritten and oral communication skillswith anability totranslate complex legal issues into clear actionable advice
