ABOUT THE ALAMEDA COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE
The Alameda County Sheriffs Office is a full-service law enforcement agency accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) for its law enforcement services its Regional Training Center and its Dispatch Unit; the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors Laboratory Accreditation Board for its Crime Lab; the Bomb Squad Commanders Advisory Board for its Explosive Ordinance Unit. Additionally the agencys health care provider Wellpath has experience working with the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC).
The Sheriffs Office has a current budget of approximately $600 million and has over 1600 authorized positions including in excess of 1000 sworn personnel. The agencys Chief Executive Officer is Sheriff / Coroner Yesenia L. Sanchez who is assisted in the operation of the agency by Undersheriff April Luckett-Fahimi Assistant Sheriffs Daniel McNaughton and Pace Stokes.
The Sheriff of Alameda County is responsible for a vast array of tasks and duties including the following:
- Providing security to the Consolidated Superior Courts
- Operating the Coroners Bureau
- Operating full-service criminalistics laboratory
- Performing Civil Process
- Operating a County Jail (Santa Rita)
- Operating the County Office of Emergency Services
- Providing patrol and investigative services to the unincorporated areas of Alameda County
- Pursuant to contractual agreements providing patrol and investigative services to the City of Dublin Oakland International Airport Highland County Hospital Social Services and to the Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District

- Providing Fish and Game enforcement

- Serving as the Executive Director of the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Task Force
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a high school diploma G.E.D. equivalency or high school proficiency certificate.
Any combination of experience training and/or education which would allow a candidate to possess the knowledge skills and abilities required below.
License:
Possession of a valid California State Motor Vehicle Operators license.
Special Requirements:
Must have eyesight correctable to 20/20 with or without the use of corrective lenses including freedom from color blindness.
Must hear and speak suitably for normal conversation
Must pass a thorough background investigation.
Must be available to work varying shifts of 8 10 or 12 hours days evenings weekends and rotating shifts including weekends and holidays.
Must be able to accept positions throughout Alameda County and be subject to rotation of assignments.
Must wear a uniform as specified by the Sheriff.

Anticipate and identify approaching vehicles.
Detect warning sounds/alarms and recognize related danger.
Ascertain sound direction.
Walk or stand for long periods of time.
Work outside in all types of weather.
Effectively communicate verbally with the public and other employees.
