ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP
The William W. McIntyre Wyoming Outdoors Legacy Fellowship offers a unique opportunity for one University of Wyoming graduate student to gain hands-on experience in state conservation and energy policy each year. The fellow will work part-time with the Wyoming Outdoor Council have the opportunity to earn academic credit through an applied practicum and get experience working directly with policy advocates and lawmakers in the state. The fellowship is designed to be customizable and generally mirror the academic calendar with the goal of helping students find their voice on conservation issues affecting Wyoming and/or Tribal conservation on the Wind River Reservation. By tracking the full legislative process the fellowship participants will gain practical real-world experience in natural resource policy work to help them prepare for a successful career in conservation or natural resource policy. How it Works

The William W. McIntyre Fellow will be a part-time temporary non-exempt WOC employee for 2 academic semesters (fall/spring) with summer work prior to the fall semester being negotiable. The Fellow will work up to 10 hrs per week with a weekly salary of $400 and be eligible for a travel reimbursement up to $1500 per academic semester (15 weeks). Fellows will be encouraged to seek academic credit per University of Wyoming policy and specific department requirements for independent work study/externship.

Fellows will work on up to three policy initiatives focused on protecting Wyomings environment outdoor legacy and quality of life for future generations and will gain real world experience on current projects with oversight from WOCs policy staff. (Examples of projects could include: white papers case studies community presentations prepared testimony on a specific policy topic etc.)

The fellowships structure is designed to align with the UW academic calendar although this might differ slightly based on scheduled legislative meetings. The fellowship will allow for opportunities to attend and work with WOC staff at the legislative session in Cheyenne generally in the January to March timeframe.

Fellows will likely have some opportunity to select policy topics aligning with their academic interest however in an attempt to keep this work practical and relevant the Fellows work portfolio will largely be driven by emerging local and state policy conversations.

Fellows will present a summary of their work to WOC staff before the end of their fellowship. Fellows will also be responsible for submitting a short 1-2 page reflection to the Wyoming Outdoor Council on how this experience helped them find their voice for conservation and Wyomings outdoors.

Eligibility to Apply

Qualified applicants will be graduate students currently enrolled in Masters or PhD programs through the University of Wyoming. (Students enrolled in online programs will also be considered although the applicant must be physically based in Wyoming).

Applicants must commit to a minimum of 2 semesters (Fall/Spring) with an option for a third summer semester at the end of the Fellowship.

Applicants must remain in good standing at the University and remain enrolled in their program through the course of their fellowship.

Applicants must have a valid drivers license and a clean driving record.

Dr. William W. McIntyre Dr. Mac was a lifelong advocate for protecting Wyomings environment and quality of life now and for future generations. He encouraged folks to slow down and take in the beauty of what we have around us in Wyoming. Through his support the Wyoming Outdoor Council was able to make an unprecedented investment into building out an organizing team to help Wyoming citizens find their voice for Wyomings environment.
