Job Summary
Overview
The Director of Business is responsible for the business environment resulting in a team that effectively meets the goals and objectives of The Salvation Army and the Adult Rehabilitation Centers business operation.
Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Evaluate trends/needs to develop a strategic business plan. Responsible for budget preparations/business plan as it relates to the Operations and Production goals of the center.
2. Directs all business aspects of on-site operations reporting to the Administrator and Command Headquarters.
3. Responsible for the supervision planning and co-ordination of dispatch warehouse shipping purchasing pickups/logistics retail sorting and overall business operations.
4. Responsible for solicitation of donations. This includes advertising bag campaigns employer drives placement of donation boxes and other appropriate methods to procure donations in-kind. Good judgment must be exercised to acquire quality and volume while minimizing inferior donations which increase dump costs.
5. Monitor the approved policies procedures and systems to maximize productivity and to ensure that adequate funds are available to effectively run the operation within the budget limit.
6. Will have authority regarding decisions in the recruitment hiring orientation training and supervision of personnel in line with current TSA policies.
7. Responsible for disciplinary action of employees up to and including discharge assuring clear written documentation of all warnings etc in line with current TSA policies.
8. Responsible for training and development of supervisors in areas such as leadership communication skills organizational skills management job knowledge performance reviews etc.
9. Ensure that systems are in place to track donations of significant value from donors trucking routes are planned efficiently to minimize the waiting period donors experience for pick up. Systems should provide for the measurement of successful routes and the quantities. Maintain manifests for shipments to stores.
10. Responsible for assignment reassignment and regular review of employees in their areas of responsibility. Conduct performance evaluations of the Supervisors and participate in other employee evaluations when required. Recommend wage increases for employees as and when appropriate; i.e. cost of living merit promotional within Command policies and budgetary limitations.
11. Review and approve work schedules absences and vacation schedules of warehouse dispatch sorting and thrift stores personnel insuring adequate staffing at all times.
12. Support the payroll function by verifying & reviewing all time sheets/cards and documents for appropriate signatures accuracy and in line with fair labor standards/wage and local laws.
13. Review and approve any employee needs for stores warehouse sorting and overtime when and if necessary exercising good judgement.
14. Responsible for maintenance security and proper use of stores vehicles and equipment. This includes but is not limited to forklifts scales material handling equipment etc. Minor repairs should be immediately attended to through employee efforts or through local professional services. If the extent of work requires command approval bids should be acquired and presented through CHQ.
15. Responsible to organize and maintain systems to monitor efficient flow of materials through the warehouse. This shall include the efficiency of all receiving storage sorting shipping and discarding of all items. Particular attention should be paid to quality quantity hanging packing and the volume of material produced and shipped.
16. Responsible to provide various documents including accurate inventory of specific items such as baling reports production reports material shipped to stores phone room reports daily sales reports and other daily/weekly/monthly reports.
17. Maintain an ongoing dialogue with supervisors administration warehouse sorting room stores and leadership with regards to reporting of information.
18. Report any site visits and/or communication from OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) Fire/Building/City/Town/Local inspector to CHQ. Verify inspector credentials by getting business card and contact details to forward to Headquarters.
19. Conduct meetings with operations and production staff on a regular basis.
20. Routinely conduct audits to thrift store truck route and box inspections to ensure compliance with command policies and procedures.
21. Regularly review the accounting reports ensuring operation within the budget and verify invoices for payment with purchase orders.
22. Responsible for customer service including the handling of complaints from donor customers and employees.
23. Other duties as may be requested by the administration to improve the overall operation of the center.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
1. College degree in Business/Management (or equivalent experience).
2. Must possess a valid drivers license with acceptable DMV record.
3. Excellent communication skills required.
4. 3 5 years experience in warehouse/business management logistics/leadership preferred.
