Ascent is seeking a Seasonal Field Archaeologist to join our Cultural Resources team for approximately two to four weeks to assist with field surveys and environmental compliance for cultural resources management a typical week in this role you might:
- Conduct pedestrian survey.
- Collect resource data in the field using GPS technologies.
- Complete California Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) 523 forms/IMACS forms for cultural resources in accordance with the California Office of Historic Preservation guidelines or Nevada State Historic Preservation Office as appropriate.
- Perform or request archival research including record searches with a California Historical Resources Information Center or Nevada Cultural Resource Information System and summarize the results in reports.
- Author cultural resource report sections and related documentation.

- Bachelors degree in archaeology anthropology with an emphasis on archaeology or a closely related field.
- Minimum of two years of field experience in performing cultural resources compliance work (e.g. pedestrian survey monitoring testing data recovery lab work) in Nevada California (preferably in Northern California) or the Great Basin.
- Completion of an accredited archaeological field school which included survey recordation and excavation experience or demonstrate relevant experience in all three aspects.
- Meets the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for Archaeology.
- Possess a valid California Drivers License and 3 years clean driving record.
- Detail-oriented and committed to accuracy.
- Excellent verbal communication and writing skills.
- Confident in working outside in remote and rural settings as well as in urban environments.
- Demonstrated ability to perform all aspects of archaeological field work.
- Excellent writing and technical editing skills with advanced experience in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with archaeology and historic preservation statutes regulations policies and guidelines.
- Experience evaluating precontact and historic-era archaeological resources for eligibility under the California Register of Historic Resources and the National Register of Historic Places.
- Demonstrated ability to engage positively with Native American tribal representatives.
- Knowledge of federal and California laws and regulations pertaining to cultural resource protection and management including AB 52.
Travel
- Travel and overnight stays would be required

- Navigating different terrain environments hiking backpacking
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at a time
