The Machinist is responsible for the safe efficient and effective fabrication replacement repair and modification of parts and equipment in VVFs operations.
Job Duties:
Performs a wide variety of service work in one or more specialized maintenance area such as mechanical electrical hydraulics carpentry or machine servicing etc
Makes standard or special replacement parts from rough stock using various machine tolls such as lathe mill shaper etc. from prints sketches or verbal instructions
Reads prints and uses precision measuring devices to accomplish critical fits or meet other specifications; requisitions stock material to replace broken or worn parts that are standard machine items.
Disassembles equipment machines or devices requiring repair or mechanical work and reassembles after performing necessary work including piping tubing and phalanges. Performs minor maintenance welding involving building and equipment repairs.
Analyzes/assesses equipment repair. Plans repair to minimize downtime to production or process.
Adjusts operating equipment to maintain production requirements; troubleshoots and makes emergency repairs as necessary
Contrives special machinery tools or devices for production or other purposes in conjunction with engineering or operations
Installs overhauls moves repairs tests and maintains all scales throughout the plant. Performs precision work on scale parts and regulates scale weights.
Lubricates drains cleans and flushes lubrication systems of machines and equipment on a routine basis as necessary
Performs general manual labor work
Performs all duties in a safe manner utilizing safety practices and procedures required by VVF and applicable law (e.g. OSHA etc.) personal protective equipment and reporting procedures. Reviews all pertinent safety material before conducting new assignments.
Monitors for and reports unusual occurrences to management
Maintains all equipment and facilities in a clean orderly and operating condition
Trains other employees as required
Assists Operations and Maintenance as required
Completes work orders as required
Must maintain skills training as required by VVF regulations and permits
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management. No task or duty is exclusive to a classification or skillset. An employee working in this classification is expected to perform various duties and tasks that traditionally may not have been assigned under a more narrow job classification.
Basic Minimum Requirements:
Authorized to work in the United States
High School Diploma or equivalent
Must have three (3) years on-the-job experience as a machinist
Experience performing milling operations such as drilling tapping boring conventional milling and lathe work
Able to understand materials and applications required to make parts needed
Experience working with band saws belt sanders hand grinders and other industrial equipment
Able to express basic electrical mechanical pneumatic and hydraulic principles
Experience working with Mechanical Components and systems Motor Gearbox Bearing Driveshaft Sprockets Roller chains Rigging etc
Experience working with Hydraulic Systems Cylinders Pumps Valves Motors etc
Ability to use precision measuring tools
Ability to manually fabricate parts from drawing or samples
Must have basic standard and metric hand tools (e.g. sockets wrenches pliers channel locks wire cutters)
Must be able to work any shift and overtime as required
Preferred Qualifications:
Basic knowledge of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Experience as a Millwright
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics technical drawings hydraulic schematics and technical manuals
Knowledge of turbines and multi-stage centrifugal pumps
Experience with precision laser alignment
Physical Requirements:
Requires sufficient physical ability to walk stand and sit; to frequently bend squat crouch kneel twist and make other movements in the performance of daily activities; grasping handling/fingering and using hand and power/pneumatic tools; to reach above shoulders and outward and lift carry push and/or pull moderate amounts of weight.
Work is performed in an internal and external plant environment; confined space entry required; exposure to noise dust and odors; all types of weather and temperature conditions; frequently at heights.
