Description of Work
The Julian F. Keith Alcohol & Drug Abuse Treatment Center (JFK ADATC) in Black Mountain has an excellent opportunity for a Nurse Supervisor. If you are looking for a challenging career working as part of a multi-disciplinary team that impacts lives please consider this opportunity at JFK ADATC.The primary purpose of the Nurse Supervisor is to provide professional nursing service to JFK ADATC patients. The Nursing Supervisor is an integral part of the Nursing Department and assumes responsibility for the nursing needs of the patients across an entire shift. This position is directly accountable to the Director of Nursing for all work performed. The Nursing Supervisor stays within the guidelines of the NC Nurse Practice Act Code of Ethics for nurses Medical and Nursing Policy and Procedures and the regulations and standards set forth by the State CMS and JCAHO. The Nursing Supervisor administratively and clinically supervises nursing staff personnel. They must work with management to oversee the daily functioning of the facility by assuring adequate staffing coverage and directing staff as they perform their duties.
This position will work 12-hour days (10:45am-11:15pm) and every other weekend some holidays
This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.
Per G.S. 126-5 (c1) (37) this position is Exempt from all provisions of NC General Statute Chapter 126 (State Human Resources Act) with the exception of Articles 6 and 7.

Recruitment Range: $69027 - $113896
*A Sign-on bonus of $10000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval.

The Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
- Demonstrated knowledge of medications and the physiological effect of those medications
- Proficiency in leading a team; skilled in delegation and making assignments
- Proficiency to guide and counsel subordinate staff and provide feedback and advice/counsel to nursing staff on care rendered to patients
- Effectively communicate information to patients families and staff in a concise and descriptive manner verbally in writing or by demonstration
- Effectively teaching nursing staff through orientation and on the job training
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of nursing experience.
Management Preferences (if applicable)
- BSN preferred.
- Prefer working knowledge of alcohol and drug detoxification and various psychotropic medications.
- Psychiatric and or chemical dependency nursing background is preferred.
- Management/supervisory experience preferred.
- CPR Certification American Heart Association
- Computer skills are required.
Positions in the Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities shall be subject to pre-employment drug testing and criminal record background checks. *Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus
To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.
An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
- The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government including the judicial system or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)
- The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency
- DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

About the facility:
JFK is a 68-bed inpatient treatment facility designed to meet the needs of alcohol and other drug dependent adults of the 37 westernmost counties in North Carolina. The facility treats chemically dependent consumers and those who have substance abuse and psychiatric diagnosis. JFK is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations as a Behavioral Health facility and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as an inpatient psychiatric hospital.
