Position Summary

Candidates may be hired at the Term Marketer or Senior Term Marketer level depending on qualifications and experience. The Term Marketer performs professional-level analytical transactional and relationship management work with guidance on more complex or strategic matters. The Senior Term Marketer performs advanced-level work with a high degree of independence and is expected to lead complex transactions represent Grant PUD externally and contribute to strategic portfolio and market decisions.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Term Marketer:

  • Optimize the value of Grant PUDs power supply portfolio including owned and contracted resources by analyzing capacity energy transmission ancillary services and environmental or non-carbon attributes; develop recommendations that align with approved risk parameters contractual obligations hydro operating constraints regulatory requirements and asset preservation strategies.
  • Analyze structure negotiate and administer wholesale power transmission environmental attribute renewable energy credit and related commercial transactions; support contract drafting execution interpretation compliance tracking settlement review and lifecycle management.
  • Maintain and strengthen productive relationships with wholesale counterparties customers consultants and regional stakeholders; serve as a point of coordination for assigned agreements and transactions and help resolve commercial operational and contractual issues.
  • Evaluate existing and potential new power supply resources whether owned or contracted using economic operational market and risk analysis; support recommendations on commercial terms contract structures integration strategies and portfolio fit consistent with long-term planning and clean-energy objectives.
  • Monitor market prices transmission conditions policy and regulatory developments and regional market design changes that may affect Grant PUD; prepare analyses and recommendations related to resource adequacy clean-energy and carbon requirements organized markets California ISO matters SPP Markets and other market-evolution issues.
  • Coordinate with Large Power Solutions and with internal stakeholders including Power Generation Power Delivery Environmental Affairs Finance Legal and other business units to support large-power purchaser relationships contract and policy development structured products and rate-setting strategy.
  • Support Grant PUDs efforts to meet retail customer carbon-free power needs by analyzing supply options market products environmental attributes and portfolio strategies that balance reliability cost risk and compliance.
  • Participate in long-term resource planning activities including Integrated Resource Plan development and updates long-range portfolio analysis economic evaluation of future resources and participation in regional meetings and forums related to power supply and market strategy.
  • Prepare clear reports presentations recommendations and decision-support materials for management and other stakeholders; maintain required records and documentation; and perform related duties as assigned.

Senior Term Marketer:

  • Maximize the value of Grant PUDs power supply portfolio by optimizing capacity energy non-carbon attributes and other ancillary services with existing risk policy; negotiate structured transactions; and maintain strong wholesale relationships.
  • Identify and evaluate potential new power supply resources (owned or contracted) to support Grant PUDs portfolio needs; lead or support negotiation of commercial terms contracts and integration strategies to ensure alignment with long-term planning risk profile and clean energy goals.
  • Monitor market trends and activities for potential impacts to Grant PUD and actively participate in industry forums and activities related to wholesale markets. Represent Grant PUD on initiatives involving market evolution such as resource adequacy carbon and clean energy and organized markets. Monitor California ISO and SPP Markets and represent Grant PUDs interests on relevant topics.
  • Coordinate and support Grant PUDs Large Power Solutions group in managing large power purchaser relationships developing contract and rate setting strategies drafting agreements and policies. Support efforts to meet the carbon-free power needs of Grant PUDs retail customers and explore possible structured products
  • Support Grants long-term resource planning by participating in developing and updating the Integrated Resource Plan long-term power portfolio planning economic analysis of future resources and regional forums related to long-term resource planning.
  • Perform related duties as required or assigned.

    Required Qualifications (Education Experience Licenses & Certifications):

    Term Marketer:

    • Bachelors degree in economics Mathematics Accounting Finance Engineering Business Administration or similar field or 2 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
    • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in power marketing energy origination wholesale energy markets energy portfolio management utility resource planning or closely related electric utility commercial or analytical work.
    • Experience analyzing markets and supporting commercial transactions wholesale relationship management or portfolio/resource planning.

    Senior Term Marketer:

    • Bachelors degree in economics Mathematics Accounting Finance Engineering Business Administration or similar field or 2 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
    • Ten (10) years of experience in power marketing origination energy markets or energy portfolio management.
    • Experience negotiating and structuring long-term commercial transactions or agreements managing wholesale or strategic counterparty relationships and supporting long-term resource planning.

    Preferred Qualifications (Education Experience Licenses & Certifications):

    Term Marketer:

    • Experience supporting structured transactions wholesale relationship management organized market participation and long-term resource planning.
    • Hydro utility experience preferred.

    Senior Term Marketer:

    • Experience negotiating structured transactions managing wholesale relationships supporting long-term resource planning and advocating policy positions in organized markets and regulatory forums.
    • Hydro utility experience preferred.

    Other Knowledge Skills & Abilities

    Term Marketer:

    • Working knowledge of concepts principles theories and methods surrounding power marketing standards and best practices; understanding of hydroelectric power generation operations; familiarity with project management tools and techniques; strong analytical and technical skills with attention to detail; and understanding of financial principles relevant to large commercial transactions.

    Senior Term Marketer:

    • Knowledge of concepts principles theories and methods surrounding power marketing standards and best practices; detailed understanding of hydro-electric power generation operations; project management tools and techniques; technical competences with an attention toward detail; financial management philosophies and budgetary guidelines associated with managing large financial expenditures.
    • Skills in exercising good judgement and making well informed decisions under pressure; written and oral interpersonal communication; identifying and analyzing potential problems with limited data and advising stakeholders on how to proceed; workflow and time management; utilizing MS office products custom financial and reporting software tools and applications.

    Physical Requirements
