Job Summary

iGiihave an exciting opportunity for a Development Scientist with expertise in Energy & Catalysis to join our rapidly expanding R&D department.

In this role the Development Scientist will contribute to the development of nextgeneration printed energy storage technologies applying advanced materials chemistry and electrochemical methods to create commercially viable battery solutions. You will play a key role in characterising and testing energy storage materials designing and executing complex experiments and driving innovation across a range of R&D programmes.



Who we are looking for

We are seeking a subject matter-expert with a strong background in energy storage materials electrochemistry and experimental design. You will bring deep scientific curiosity robust technical capability and handson experience developing or characterising battery materials electrodes or other energyrelated systems. You should be confident working independently managing complex experiments and contributing effectively to multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications:

Successful candidates will have gained through advanced education (PhD or specialist Masters) and relevant industry experience a core knowledge and understanding of Materials Science Chemistry or Electrochemistry.

You will be able to demonstrate through recent industry experience (this could be within a spin-out early-stage or mature commercially oriented organisation):

  • Proven hands-on experience with energy storage materials R&D including the development optimisation and characterisation of battery chemistries active materials inks and electrolytes.
  • Demonstratable experience contributing to R&D projects involving:
    • Experience in the assembly testing and characterisation of printed primary or secondary batteries.
    • Innovation and problem-solving in experimental design and execution.
  • Interpretation of electrochemical performance and materials characterisation data.

Technical and scientific skills required for R&D in a commercial context:



  • Strong ability to design execute and interpret complex experiments with a rigorous and methodical approach.
  • Solid understanding of GLP and standard laboratory techniques and practices and experience working within a regulatory environment.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and contribute to internal reviews or external collaborations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning professional development and scientific curiosity.

Additional Desirable Experience:



  • Background in inks chemistry including rheology binder solvent interactions and substrate compatibility.
  • Experience with advanced materials characterisation techniques such as SEM and Raman.
  • Experience working with gloveboxes or moisturesensitive materials
  • A track record of translating research into commercially viable products or solutions and delivering projects that meet commercial and regulatory requirements.



What you will do

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting R&D into nextgeneration energy storage materials and devices using Gii electrodes prioritising commercially viable solutions.
  • Apply advanced materials chemistry principles to develop next-generation printed primary and secondary batteries prioritising the innovation of non-lithium rechargeable systems and their associated active materials.
  • Analyse battery mechanisms reaction kinetics and material interactions to understand performance stability and degradation pathways.
  • Design and execute electrochemical tests using potentiostats and battery cyclers including impedance and voltammetric methods.
  • Prepare highprecision solutions and maintain strong GLP/GMP laboratory standards.
  • Perform materials characterisation using analytical techniques such as SEM and Raman.
  • Independently plan and execute experiments (including DOEs) in line with project timelines budgets SOPs and safety requirements.
  • Take ownership of technical project delivery identifying risks and driving innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Analyse complex electrochemical and materials data and present insights clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Write technical reports contribute to presentations and support the creation and maintenance of SOPs SWPs COSHH and risk assessments.
