Were looking for an experienced Senior Designer to join our Communications and Engagement team. This fixed term role is expected to be approximately 6 months in duration and will end when the incumbent returns from Parental Leave. This is a hands-on role so youll need to get up to speed quickly and be comfortable balancing strategic thinking with doing the design work itself.
Kōrero mō te tūranga About the role
In this role youll deliver high-quality design outputs across digital and print that are clear accessible and aligned to the Ministrys identity and strategic direction. Youll work closely with teams across Manatū Taonga providing expert design advice and creating content that helps people understand complex information.
Youll bring a strong user-centred approach apply digital and print best practice and ensure our work meets NZ Government Web Standards. Youll also help embed good design and accessibility thinking across the organisation through mentoring and practical advice.
Youll actively use your design skills to support MāoriCrown relationships and be confident working with Māori design practitioners.
Kōrero mōu About you
Youre an experienced designer who can confidently step into a senior role and contribute from day one. Youre comfortable working at pace juggling priorities and switching between strategic conversations and practical delivery.
Youll bring:
- Strong experience communicating complex ideas through visual design across digital and print
- Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite and confidence working across multiple formats
- Sound experience with information architecture UX interaction design and user testing
- Working knowledge of front-end technologies such as HTML CSS and JavaScript
- A solid understanding of digital accessibility standards including WCAG and NZ Government Web Standards
- Experience building or maintaining design systems that are consistent durable and fit for the future
- The ability to clearly explain influence and build consensus around design concepts
- A collaborative mindset and a genuine willingness to mentor others and share knowledge
You dont need to be an expert in te reo Māori or tikanga but you do need an awareness of applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi in your work.
