The role

We are looking for a Technical Officer Known Good Die (KGD) to support our Canadian Photonics Fabrication Centre (CPFC) Research Centre. The Technical Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity Excellence Respect and Creativity.

This position will focus on supporting Known Good Die (KGD) preparation and testing for semiconductor device development and precommercial production in a cleanroom environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in the backend processing and characterization of semiconductor components to ensure device quality and reliability.

Working as part of a collaborative team of technical specialists the incumbent will operate maintain and support a range of KGDrelated tools and processes. All processing will be conducted according to established procedures safety protocols and process instructions documented in the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and scheduled by the operations and planning teams.

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

Post-secondary education in Electronic Engineering Technology or scientific discipline related to the position or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.

Experience

  • Significant experience operating and supporting semiconductor backend and device assembly equipment such as but not limited to facet coater systems cleaving stacking die bonders wire bonders bar testers and burnin systems.
  • Significant experience supporting KGD testing and equivalent semiconductor device reliability testing and screening activities.
  • Significant experience in the safe handling and processing of chemicals tools and materials used in a semiconductor manufacturing environment.
  • Basic experience in documenting process steps and results using a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) or equivalent database.
  • Significant experience with optical inspection and defect identification using microscopes and SEM.
  • Basic experience supporting semiconductor fabrication including waferlevel processes and backend assembly or test activities.

*Significant experience is defined as two (2) to five (5) years experience

*Basic is defined as 6 months to 12 months of experience

Condition of employment

  • Reliability Status
    • For a Reliability Status verification of background information over a period of 5 years is required.

  • Must qualify to work in a controlled Goods Zone training will be provided.
  • Must be able to work in a semiconductor cleanroom environment and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Ability to operate and monitor complex fabrication and test equipment following established process instructions and safety protocols.
  • Ability to perform routine equipment checks calibrations and basic maintenance to ensure stable and repeatable process performance.
  • Ability to rigorously follow manufacturing procedures and accurately document process steps and results.
  • Ability to interpret basic test or metrology data to support process evaluation and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineering and operations staff to meet production schedules and process objectives.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks to maximize productivity.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) regulations required to maintain a safe and compliant laboratory and cleanroom environment.
