Job Summary

Main Purpose of Job

To develop and implement a bilingual educational program for Deaf students in a language accessible environment as well as provide an enriched bicultural environment conducive to the development of the optimal social and emotional growth of Deaf students. To provide a language enriched environment through use of sign language and printed word to meet the varied needs of Deaf Students. The teacher provides instruction in Automotive Technology and Collision Repair and related Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses fostering both industry-specific skills and academic growth.

POSITION DUTIES

Plan deliver and assess classroominstruction and hands-on lab experiences aligned to the Automotive Technologyand Auto Body/Collision Repair programs of study including automotive systemsdiagnostics preventative maintenance damage analysis structural andnon-structural repair refinishing shop safety industry tools and equipmentand professional automotive practices. Design and develop instructional materialsto support student learning.

Integrate bilingual and visual instructionalstrategies that support language access and comprehension for deaf andhard-of-hearing students including collaboration with interpreters and relatedservice providers as needed.

Facilitate real-world automotive and collisionrepair experiences through school-based projects work-based learningopportunities and internships guiding students in professional standardsteamwork problem-solving and customer service expectations.

Supervise and mentor students during on-campusshop activities and off-site automotive experiences including job shadowinginternships and industry visits to ensure safe high-quality and educationalpractices.

Manage and operate the automotive andcollision repair lab spaces providing students with opportunities to applytechnical diagnostic and employability skills using industry-standard toolsand equipment.

Maintain accurate inventory of toolsequipment parts and instructional materials; oversee proper use storage andmaintenance of automotive and collision repair equipment; and coordinate withadministration and vendors to ensure the lab remains fully equipped safe andinstructional-ready.

Deliver instruction aligned to industry-recognizedcredentials and frameworks including ASE Education Foundation standards forautomotive service and maintenance I-CAR Academy curriculum for collisionrepair and refinishing and SAE-informed best practices. Prepare students tomeet certification requirements while developing strong understanding ofworkplace safety environmental and regulatory compliance diagnostic andrepair procedures documentation and professional expectations acrossautomotive technology and auto body programs of study.

Maintain a safe clean and organizedautomotive and collision repair shop environment that meets safety regulationsindustry standards and instructional needs.

Develop and maintain weekly lesson plansaligned to course standards and program expectations using student data andassessments to differentiate instruction and promote mastery of technical andemployability competencies.

Implement IEP accommodations and supplementaryaids collect data and collaborate with support staff to monitor studentprogress and ensure equitable access to instruction.

Coordinate and coach students for career andtechnical student organization competitions fostering leadership technicalexcellence and pride in their automotive and collision repair skills.

Promote a positive inclusive learning environmentthat encourages critical thinking collaboration professionalism and respectfor diverse career pathways within the automotive and transportationindustries.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelors degree required.

Candidates must be eligible to apply for or be willingto obtain licensure by the Maryland State Department of Education. Fluency inAmerican Sign Language and written English required. Knowledge of the deafculture deaf education students with additional disabilities and ability toteach students on different levels and with varying educational and languageacquisition backgrounds is required.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Masters degree in Education or specialeducation of Deaf students Maryland State Department of EducationCertification. Experience/knowledge in automotive technology and collisionrepair. Vocational experience in theautomotive industry and/or experience in K-12 Automotive Technology andCollision Repair -recognized credentials aligned to Automotive Technology andCollision Repair instruction such as ASE certifications and I-CAR credentialssuch as ASE Master Technician certification ASE Education FoundationInstructor I-CAR Platinum ProLevel certification or EPA Section 609certification.
