Mortgage Lending Operations Manager

Job Summary
This role requires a hybrid schedule and will be based in our South Charlotte NC Headquarters (Tuesday through Thursday) and work fully remotely on Mondays and Fridays each week.
We are seeking a deadline-focused inquisitive and highly accountable Mortgage Lending Operations Manager to serve as our Qualified Individual (QI) and lead the end-to-end oversight of our mortgage brokering operation. This is a high-visibility role within our Commercial division reporting to the Head of Client Success. You will be the primary architect of our First Line of Defense governance model ensuring that as we move deeper into broker functions our technology marketing and partnerships remain in lock-step with the highest regulatory standardsparticularly as we expand our operations in the New York market.
An active New York MLO license is preferred; however if not currently held you must be eligible to obtain licensure and be approved as the QI by the NYDFS concurrently with our entity registration. Your continued tenure in this role is dependent upon your ability to support Bankrate in obtaining and maintaining this registration.
What Youll Do:
- Regulatory Leadership: Serve as Bankrates QI for current and future mortgage and consumer lending licenses and registrations.
- First Line of Defense Governance: Design and launch new operational governance processes from scratch. This includes establishing protocols for collecting consumer PII managing data consent for third-party integrations (e.g. credit bureaus Plaid) and auditing pre-approval letter logic.
- Operational Oversight: Provide end-to-end oversight of the mortgage journey. Partner with Marketing to ensure advertisements meet regulatory standards and work with Product/Tech to refine matching algorithms and lender integrations.
- Commercial Integration: Collaborate with Sales and Account Management to optimize lender performance. Act as a constructive challenger ensuring new business cases (e.g. pre-qualification tech) are refined for risk management without sacrificing distribution scale.
- External Representation: Represent Bankrate in conversations with lender partners and regulators.
- AI Productivity: Utilize enterprise licenses for Gemini Claude etc. to scale your productivity automate monitoring and streamline document management.
What Were Looking For:
- New York Qualifier: The primary objective of this role is to serve as the Qualifying Individual for the New York Mortgage Broker Registration. As this position is a regulatory requirement your tenure relies on the ability to support Bankrate in obtaining and maintaining this registration. If you do not hold a New York MLO license you will apply for it concurrently with Bankrates application for registration.
- Regulatory Contingency: Note that employment in this position is contingent upon the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) approval of the candidate as Bankrates Qualifier. Because this approval is a prerequisite for performing the core function of the role an inability to secure or maintain this designation as determined by NYDFS will result in the candidate being ineligible for continued employment in this role.
Additional Experience:
- Underwriting Expertise: A minimum of 2 years of recent verifiable experience in the credit analysis and/or underwriting of residential mortgage loans. You must be able to demonstrate a technical background in evaluating borrower income credit risk and collateral.
- Licensing: Must currently hold or expeditiously apply for the following MLO licenses upon hire: AR CT FL IN-SOS MT NV NM NC OH OK RI TX-SML WV. Also: NJ Qualified Individual and WA Designated Broker.
- Industry Tenure: 3 years of general mortgage industry experience gained within the past 5 years.
- Problem Solver: Proven ability to design and implement operational processes from scratch. You are diligent organized and comfortable with high-stakes accountability.
Compensation:
This range reflects total cash compensation which may include base salary only or base salary plus target bonus depending on the role. Where eligible equity may also be offered separately and not included below. Actual compensation varies based on location experience and qualifications.
- Total Cash Compensation Range: $122000 - $152000 per year
