JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

This is aseasonal position starting in June and ending in September with approximately25-35 hours per week. Under the supervision of the Head Life Guard and OCC Director and/or Program Coordinator; insures safety throughaccident prevention first aid and rescue techniques as prescribed by basiclifeguarding techniques; enforce departmental rules and regulations and performswimming rescues; instruct aquatic activities and lessons according to RedCross Swim Instruction Program. TheCarbuncle beach lifeguard works under the direct supervision of the OCCDirector and/or Program Coordinator to safeguard all beach patrons fromdrowning and other accidents. He/she is responsible for constant patronsurveillance of his/her assigned area and enforcement of recreational rules andregulations established by the Town of addition waterfrontlifeguards must practice preventative lifeguarding keep themselves physicallyfit and mentally aware maintain and operate safety equipment administerfirst-aid as required and render aid necessary to rescue and resuscitate neardrowning victims. The lifeguard also assists in the cleaning security andmaintenance of Carbuncle facility.

Responsibilities
The Lifeguard is responsible for:

Primaryfirst responder to incidents accidents and emergencies on assigned Carbunclebeach during posted business hours- weather permitting.

Immediatelyand appropriately respond to and mitigate all illness injuries or otheremergencies occurring on or around assigned duty post. This includes but is notlimited to performing lifeguarding skills first aid skills CPR emergencyoxygen administration or other essential skills within the scope and practiceof the lifeguards training.

Providea reasonable standard of care necessary to stabilize injured or ill patronsprior to the arrival of advanced emergency medical services.

Rescueswimmers in immediate danger as capable.

Maintainconstant surveillance through regular visual scanning of assigned area ofresponsibility.

Monitorpatron activities provide instructions and prevent accidents.

Communicatepertinent information regarding beach use and other safety guidelines.

Cautionpatrons of unsafe practices and enforce recreational rules and regulationsestablished by the Town of Oxford.

Reportin and out from assigned duty post promptly at expected time.

Initialpoint of contact for concerned patrons. Relay or redirect information to OCCDirector and/or Program Coordinator.

Communicateopenly and regularly with supervisor and team members.

Followopening or closing procedures including raking the beachfront and inspectingwater for debris.

Keepaccurate and timely records of daily beach activities to include but notlimited to water conditions weather conditions hazards swim counts andgeneral announcements.

Attendand participate in all mandatory staff meetings and in-service training.

Workas a team player with other members of the Carbuncle Park staff includingother lifeguards park monitors counselors and summer program coordinator.

Recognizeyour role as an employee of the Town of Oxford.

Maintaina professional appearance and demeanor use appropriate family-friendlylanguage and correct behavioral issues in a positive and constructive manner.

Maintainthe fullest level of professional training and physical stamina.

Greetall visitors; resident and non-resident politely and positively.

Restrictaccess to the lake its beaches and common properties to properly identified passholdersand their guests.

Ensurereasonable cleanliness and aesthetic appearance of assigned common properties.

Attendto trash receptacles as listed in opening/closing procedures.

Inspectclean and maintain safety communication and utility equipment.

Maintainconfidentiality of staff visitors and program participants.

Otherbeach related duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

Lifeguardsare required to work at a freshwater lake where they are exposed to inclementweather conditions often with insufficient protection from the sun. Hazardsmay be presented by naturally occurring and regularly changing conditions suchas water temperature debris and uneven sand. Work in and around turbid freshwater.

Physical Demands:

Abilityto lift a person off the bottom and out of the water (average weight 175 lbs.).

Ability to push pull or lift 20 pounds(frequently) 50 pounds (occasionally) and 150 pounds (rarely).

Performall physical skills required for waterfront lifeguard first aid and CPRcertifications.

Abilityto stand or sit for long periods of time in varying outside air temperaturesand climate conditions.

Musthave corrected vision (20/20) sufficient to distinguish objects at a distanceof no less than 100 yards and distinguish color.

Musthave sufficient hearing to perform the duties of the job.

Whileperforming duties of this job employee is occasionally required to climb orbalance; jump stoop kneel or crouch.

Abilityto safely climb to and quickly exit from heights up to 10 feet.

Abilityto walk run jump or stand on uneven terrain.

Mustexercise daily and otherwise maintain peak physical endurance

Required Education and Experience

16years of age or older.

AmericanRed Cross or Equivalent Lifeguarding (deep water skills)

BasicLife Support CPR and AED training for professional rescuers.

AmericanRed Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel.

AmericanRed Cross Emergency Oxygen Administration.

AmericanRed Cross Blood Bourne Pathogens.

AdvancedFirst Aid training such as Emergency Responder or Emergency Medical Technicianis desired but not required.

Possessionof current certifications.

Atleast one season of prior deep water lifeguard experience helpful.

Work Authorization
Provideappropriate documentation to verify your authorization to work in the UnitedStates.
