Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The role is primary responsibility is the coordination of community engagement program(s). They represent the Ministry Unit(s) to the wider community through the volunteer program community events fundraising and external communications through coordination organization and monitoring multiple programs simultaneously within a large social services facility setting. They also coordinate Ministry Units public engagement through events and external communication both virtually and in-person in collaboration with the Community Development team.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all some or similar range of duties.
Coordinates the planning content creation and deployment of newsletters social media and website.
Coordinates the planning and execution of fundraising initiatives
Works with program management in the promotion and marketing of Ministry Units programs within the community
Coordinates Ministry Units participation in public community events such as health clinics community fairs etc.
Administers Ministry Units practicum student program and liaises with post-secondary institutions to arrange partnership agreements; collaborates with managers to support department programs (if applicable)
Foster and maintain a positive relationship with event participants and partners
Coordinates Ministry Units volunteer program
Serves as first point of contact for all past present and future individual volunteers group volunteers and practicum students
Develops reviews and maintains volunteer records using a web-based database; ensures confidentiality of client and volunteer information
Maintains updates and creates all volunteer program documents including applications paperwork and handbook
Contributes to development promotes and facilitates a diverse portfolio of ongoing and event-based volunteer roles for individual and group volunteers
Coordinates the Criminal Record Review Program for volunteers; ensures all new volunteers are screened through the CRRP; ensures all long-term volunteers renew their CRRP clearance every five years
Provides a general screening and orientation for all new individual volunteers including mandatory training modules; collaborates with managers and front-line staff to provide role-specific orientation and training as needed
Coordinates the schedules for all volunteer opportunities
Works with the Community Council and/or other partners to identify promote and deliver skilled volunteer and group volunteer opportunities
Plans recognition activities for National Volunteer Week and/or International Volunteer Day; ensures volunteers are recognized throughout the year
Creates and maintains list of reports required for health and safety compliance purposes
Supports external reporting requests as needed.
Develops plans coordinates and implements professional development training for managers and front-line staff. For example First Aid Training Non-Violent Crisis Intervention etc.
Builds the donor base through following up on initial contacts and general leads of various kinds including reaching out to past event participants
Cultivates relationships with current donors through visits and general correspondence seeking to gain further commitment and increase their financial support of the Ministry Unit
Support organization and participate in Sunday worship where youth students families and volunteers may be involved or where support is needed by Corps leaders
Coordinates with the churchs administrative and pastoral care givers in problem-solving and program development for the benefit of the church and individuals
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports directly to the Community Ministries Director.
Direct reports: none.
May show others how to perform certain procedures.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters or has responsibility for the wise use of their own resources.
The incumbent may be authorized to expense purchases related to campaigns/events.
The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The incumbents work environment is typically in the office. Works in generally agreeable conditions such as those found inside offices or equivalent work areas
Demonstrated ability and trust to work under minimal supervision
The incumbent will be expected to travel some periods of time
May be required to lift or move up to 29 lbs
Some evening weekend STAT work required for volunteer orientation sessions events etc.
MUST be flexible and be able and willing to work on STAT holiday special events.
The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

- Annual WHMIS training/certification
- Safe Food Handling Courses
The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to:
- Risk to Carpel Tunnel Syndrome
- Exposure to infectious diseases
The performance of the job requires frequent data entry moderate attention when responding to phone inquiries frequent scheduling and detailed eye work.
The performance of the job requires frequent keyboarding lifting boxes and a moderate amount of setting up displays and packing kits.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.
Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.
Education Qualifications and Certifications:
Completion of a formal post-secondary program or specialized courses or certification year in volunteer management non-profit management or a related social services field.
Hold or be willing to train for a basic First Aid/CPR certificate and NVCI.
Certification (CCVA) in volunteer administration credential would be an asset.
Experience and Knowledge:
At least a year of previous related experience in communications public relations and fundraising.
At least a year of experience of coordinating individual and group volunteers.
At least a year of experience in customer service and/or in the hospitality industry.
Previous experience working in a social service setting (e.g. shelters addiction treatment correctional programs) would be a significant asset.
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
Experience working with a web-based volunteer database (e.g. BetterImpact or VolunteerHub)
Experience with social media content creation and management and/or newsletter development would be an asset.
Skills and Capabilities:
A valid drivers license and clean drivers abstract may be required for this role.
Proven ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse population of staff volunteers and clients.
Exceptional confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Strong administrative time-management and organization skills.
Attention to detail problem solving and analytical skills.
Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
Ability to lift up to 29 lbs.
The incumbent has a keen interest in joining thinktank committees and/or community committees.
Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion (i.e. The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $48048.00 to $60070.40 with a maximum of $72072.00.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
