Job Responsibilities and Duties:
At Sibanye Stillwater the Mine Site Safety Manager is responsible for leading the safety and health functions at the Stillwater and East Boulder Mines. Ensuring a safe and environmentally conscious setting for all employees is paramount to the success of all departments. Responsibilities include continued successful development and implementation of the Sibanye-Stillwater Occupational Health and Safety Management System. The Safety Manager provides departmental and organizational vision enforces safety and health compliance and implements successful departmental budgeting practices. The Site Safety Manager supervises and develops safety and health staff as well as provides consultation guidance and technical support to site managers. This position interfaces with regulatory agencies at the local and district level on a consistent basis.
This Safety Manager is an integral part of the site senior leadership team. This position helps drive the creation of an engaged workplace culture and provides leadership that promotes exploring innovative ways to improve worker safety and health throughout the operations. - Provides leadership and guidance to all levels of mine operations in safety and health compliance.
- Coaches mentors and develops subordinate leaders in alignment with the Organizations leadership matrix.
- Collaborates with the site senior leadership team in continuing the development of a focused engaged culture throughout the organization.
- Establish and execute short and long-term planning strategies that support attainment of zero harm within the operation.
- Leads site safety and health team to ensure maximum support to site operations through technical knowledge and effective training of all mine site personnel.
- Proactive in all aspects of the operation; safety effective and efficient utilization of resources productivity continuous improvement initiatives and teamwork across the site.
- Ability to take disciplinary action as necessary professionally addressing inappropriate behaviours.
- Actively support safety and health management environmental systems and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain and support all audits certification and license requirements including but not limited to ISO 45001 ATF license internal and external audits
- Maintain productive labour relations and knowledge of current Collective Bargaining Agreements
- Demonstrate positive two-way verbal and written communication
- Demonstrates fair consistent administration of Company policies procedures and supports subordinate leaders in dealing with employee concerns.
- Develop and communicate site goals and initiatives in cooperation with other site managers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Vast knowledge of underground mining operations mine ventilation systems underground safety production maintenance economics equipment and staff utilization.
- Working knowledge of 30 CFR Parts 56/57 MSHA Standards and NIOSH practices and principles.
- Experienced in PC based software programs; PowerPoint Excel Word and business-based software with the ability to develop presentations.
- Safety compliance experience at an operating mine or processing operation.
- Leadership qualities including character teamwork communication business sense and vision.
- Strong ability to coach and mentor others both peers and subordinates.
- Solid understanding and applying of MSHA regulations and compliance.
Education & Experience
- Thorough understanding of underground mining methods/terminology including health safety and environmental regulation.
- MSHA certified instructor (underground).
- Prior knowledge and/or experience in Industrial Hygiene and MSHA regulations Demonstrated knowledge of Risk Management principles.
- Degree in Safety occupational health or its equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Minimum ten years relevant experience preferably in mining
