Why This Role Matters
GEICO is reengineering underwriting at scale. As a Senior Staff Engineer you will play a pivotal role in building the next generation of underwriting platforms that power decisions across all GEICO business lines. This is a highimpact leadership role where you will design build and scale missioncritical AIenabled systems while helping transform GEICO from a traditional IT organization into a modern technology company.
You will work at the intersection of cloudnative architecture distributed systems and applied AI partnering closely with underwriting operations product leaders and senior engineers to eliminate manual processes and unlock smarter faster decisionmaking.
What Youll Do
Lead the design and delivery of largescale productionready underwriting platforms including AI and LLMpowered capabilities
Architect highly available secure and scalable services that support enterpriselevel workloads
Drive endtoend ownership of systemsfrom concept and architecture through production and longterm evolution
Provide technical leadership across multiple teams influencing architecture design patterns and engineering standards
Mentor and grow senior and midlevel engineers setting a high bar for engineering excellence
Partner closely with Product Operations and Engineering Leadership to deliver measurable business outcomes
Modernize legacy systems through cloud migration automation and digital transformation initiatives
Champion best practices in observability performance reliability and security
Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders
What You Bring
Technical Expertise
Deep experience with at least one modern programming language (Java Go or C)
Strong background in distributed systems and serviceoriented architectures (REST gRPC)
Handson experience designing and building cloudnative systems on AWS Azure or GCP
Fluency in DevOps and CI/CD including infrastructure as code and operational best practices
Advanced understanding of data structures algorithms and system design
Proven experience with application monitoring performance tuning and observability tools
AI & Modern Engineering
Practical experience integrating AI/ML solutions including LLMs prompts and RAGbased approaches
Experience building AIenabled applications via APIs or embedded solutions
Curiosity and comfort working in an evolving AIdriven engineering landscape
Leadership & Collaboration
Ability to lead through influence rather than authority
Strong communication skills with a track record of collaborating across disciplines
Comfort operating in a fastpaced startuplike environment while delivering enterprisegrade solutions
Experience Requirements
10 years of professional software engineering experience including seniorlevel technical leadership
8 years leading architecture and largescale system initiatives
4 years building and operating systems in public cloud environments
3 years working on AI/MLdriven products or platforms
Experience contributing to or leveraging opensource frameworks

Annual Salary
$110000.00 - $260000.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include but are not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the role the selected candidates work experience education and training the work location as well as market and business considerations.
