Job Title: Tool Designer
Client: Heavy Machine Manufacturing Company
Location: Waterloo IA 50703
Duration: 24 Months (Extension/Conversion Possible)
Shift: 1st Shift (6:00 AM 2:30 PM OT)
Job Summary
Designs and delivers complex tooling solutions that directly impact manufacturing efficiency. Owns the lifecycle from concept design build shop validation with strong shop-floor collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Design tooling fixtures gauges and assemblies
- Lead tooling development for new and revised products
- Collaborate with machinists welders and suppliers
- Drive manufacturable cost-effective design decisions
Core Duties
- Create detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings
- Apply GD&T and tolerance stack-ups effectively
- Design for machining assembly and real-world usage
- Support tool builds (internal external suppliers)
- Participate in design reviews and mentor junior designers
- Troubleshoot tooling issues and implement improvements
- Manage revisions documentation and change control
Technical Focus
- Tooling design (fixtures gauges stamping tools)
- CAD modeling (Creo / SolidWorks)
- GD&T and tolerance optimization
- Lean manufacturing and process improvement
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of Tool Design experience (preferred)
- Strong CAD experience (Creo / Solid modeling)
- Knowledge of machining fabrication and assembly processes
- Engineering background or equivalent experience
- Ability to work independently and guide others
Preferred Skills
- Programming exposure (C Python SQL)
- Project management experience
- Supplier coordination / purchasing knowledge
- Experience with complex tooling environments
