Job Summary
The Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine at Tulane University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join a portfolio of quantitative health equity research led by Dean Thomas A. LaVeist. The fellow will be affiliated with theTulane Health Equity Institute a university-wide initiative advancing research on structural determinants of health policy solutions and systems-level interventions to reduce inequities.
This position is embedded within an active research program examining how health policy health system organization financing structures and structural driversincluding housing discrimination and community-level social vulnerabilityshape access to care quality utilization and health outcomes. Projects include secondary analysis of large national datasets administrative and claims data and policy-relevant evaluations designed to inform federal and state decision-makers.
The postdoctoral fellow will:
- Lead and contribute to rigorous quantitative analyses in health services and health policy research
- Develop and execute analytic plans using large survey administrative or health system datasets
- Contribute to the preparation and submission of NIH and other federal grant proposals
- Prepare manuscripts for submission to high-impact peer-reviewed journals
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across public health medicine and policy
- Engage in research translation efforts aligned with the mission of the Tulane Health Equity Institute
The fellow will contribute substantively to funded and developing research projects while also pursuing an independent research agenda aligned with health equity and structural determinants of health. Structured mentorship in federal grant writing research leadership and academic career development will be provided.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- PhD (completed by start date) in Health Policy and Management Health Services Research Epidemiology Public Health Economics or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated expertise in quantitative research methods and statistical modeling
- Experience working with large-scale survey administrative or health system datasets
- Record of peer-reviewed publications related to health equity health services research health policy or structural determinants of health
- Strong scientific writing skills and demonstrated capacity to contribute to competitive grant proposals
Appointment
This is a full-time 12-month postdoctoral appointment that can be renewed for a second yearwith the possibility of athird year contingent upon performance and funding availability. Salary is commensurate with NIH postdoctoral guidelines and experience. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Qualifications
- Research experience examining structural determinants of health such as housing policy discrimination telehealth access cancer care disparities or community-level social vulnerability
- Experience synthesizing health system performance data to evaluate disparities in care delivery or outcomes
- Experience contributing to NIH-funded research or federal grant submissions
- Interest in policy-relevant research with implications for health system transformation and equity-focused reform
