Job Description Summary:
SUMMARYThe City of Boulder is looking to fill a Traffic Signs and Marketing Maintenance Tech role. We are looking for candidates with skill sets that fit either those of the level I or Level II position. Under general supervision the Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician participates in a work group and performs installation maintenance and repair work related to all aspects of signs and pavement markings. This position also inspects similar work performed by contractors.

Job Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assiststhework groupinmaintainingadequate inventories of signing and pavement marking materials and supplies and fabricates traffic signs using sign fabrication software materials equipment and machinery.
Installs and removes traffic signs delineators and posts as directed by work orders.
Responds to scheduled and unscheduled sign maintenance requests as needed that includes replacing straighteningandcleaning signs and trimming of vegetation.
Communicates directly with Utility companies tolocateunderground utilities prior to sign installation.
Installs andmaintainspreformed pavement markings according to Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and City standards.
Establishes safe andappropriate workzones while performing work in the right-of-way.
Assists and in the absence of the Traffic Signs and Markings MaintenanceLeadTechnician coordinates monitors and inspects contracted installation or maintenance and repair work related to all aspects of signs and pavement markings.
Assiststhework groupin the field layout of proposed installations or modifications as detailed on plans.
Identifiesproblems and bringsthemto the attention of the Traffic Signs and Markings MaintenanceLeadTechnician or the Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Supervisor.
Documents all work performed appropriatelywithin the Citys asset management system.
Assumes responsibility and accountability for their final work product.
Maintainsaccuraterecords of work performed and materials usedwithin the Citys asset management system.
Assists the TrafficData CollectionTechnicianIII in conducting traffic studies using a variety of data collection devices. This data collection may include traffic volumes (24-hour summaries and peak hour turning movement counts) bicycle and pedestrian counts hour delay and any other traffic data collectiondeemednecessary by the Transportation Operations Engineer.
Assistsin placing and removing speedfeedbacktrailers in locationsdeterminedby that program.
Works safely and effectively in City right-of-way. Remains aware of and recognizes the appropriateness of contractor work zones in the City ROW. Notifies Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Supervisor of any issuesobserved.
Shares information provides and receives feedback with coworkers and supervisors.
Interacts directly with the public.
Participates in and provides instruction to incoming employees. Mayparticipatein and provide feedback during interviews and performance evaluations.
Performs related duties asto meet the needs of theCity.
Knows andcomplies withall City and department policies andparticipatesin professional trainings and development.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician I
Ability todemonstrateeffective communication skills. Ability tolisten to and respect inputparticipatein work group conversations and deal directly with issues that arise.
Ability to give and receive verbal instructions.
Ability tomaintainaccuratework recordswithin the Citys asset management system.
Ability to remain alert to conditions and events occurring in public right-of-wayindicatinganticipatedor needed maintenance and repairs.
Ability to take proper safety precautions to prevent accidents including use of all required safety equipment and following all safety regulations policiesproceduresand reporting requirements. Responsible for the safety of self others materials and equipment. Reports all accidents and damage to city property.
Ability to work courteouslyrespectfullyand effectively with the public indifficult situations both in person and on the telephone.
Knowledge andpreviousexperience using Windows based software such asdatabasespreadsheetand word processingprograms.
Valid Drivers license and ability tomaintainan acceptable motor vehicle record.
Have andmaintainacceptable background information including criminal conviction history.

In addition to the Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician I minimum qualifications:
Ability todemonstrateexperience with a variety of maintenance and equipment operations.
Ability to plan work activities and to give and receive verbal instructions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician I
Ability and desire to learn about the installation removal and maintenance of traffic signs and markings.
Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician II
In addition to the Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician I preferred qualifications:
IMSA Signs Technician Level II Certification.
IMSA Pavement Markings Technician Level II Certification.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician I
High School diploma or GED; or equivalent of two (2) years related experience may substitute for the education requirement only.
No experience.
ATSSA Flagger Certification or new hires have ability to obtain within three (3) months.
IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician or new hires have ability to obtain within one (1) year.
IMSA Signs & Pavement Markings Technician Level I or equivalent within one (1) year
Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician II
High School diploma or GED; or equivalent of two (2) years related experience may substitute for the education requirement only.
One (1) year of related experience.
ATSSA Flagger Certification or new hires have ability to obtain within three (3) months.
IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician Certification.
IMSA Signs and Pavement Markings Technician Level I Certification.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Physical and Mental Effort:Physical ability to perform a wide range of tasks in an outdoor daytime and nighttime environment in and around moving traffic requiring standing walking bending and kneeling. Upper body strength to lift and carry equipment as needed. Ability to occasionally lift or exert up to 100 pounds. Ability to work up to 20 feet above hand and eye coordination tooperatecomputers and office equipment vision for frequent reading recording and interpreting information including ability to distinguish distinct color changes and frequent speech communication and hearing tomaintaincommunication with citizens and employees.Ability tooperatea variety of long handle manual and power tools.
Work Environment:Works primarily in an office or enclosed vehicle environment.Regularly worksin oradjacent tomoving roadway trafficencounteringnoise dust and fumes. Occasionallyencountersadverse weather conditions darkness and mechanical/electrical/equipment hazards.
