Job Summary

Lead the integration of land use mobility infrastructure and urban design to guide Edmontons urban form!

Reporting to the Branch Manager Planning and Environment Services the Director Urban Strategies will lead the implementation of the City Plan by developing strategic level plans policies and programs that define and integrate the City Plan systems and networks. The Director will also lead and support multi-disciplinary teams of technical leaders and professional staff to develop and assess programs strategies and policies that guide the systems and networks related to mobility land use and urban design envisioned in The City Plan.

The Director has corporate accountability for strategic mobility direction (long range planning and network analysis) and land use planning (area-specific and long range land use policy intermunicipal planning urban design and heritage preservation). The Director is expected to implement the City Plan vision proactively engage with partners to create and implement programs and serve as a City representative for matters related to mobility and land use planning.

This position provides strategic leadership for the corporation on the systems and networks aspect of the City Plan ensuring the prudent use of resources managing risk and integrating the work of the sections leadership team. Major outcomes focus on translating the broader direction of the City Plan into clear guidance and concrete actions integrating land use mobility infrastructure and urban design to guide the development of Edmontons urban form and growing a healthy sustainable and livable city.

What will you do

  • Provide leadership and guidance to internal and external teams or groups ensuring best utilization of resources processes policies and conflict and issue resolution
  • Implement the City Plan vision and proactively engage with partners to create and implement programs related to mobility land use and urban design
  • Serve as a City representative for matters related to urban design mobility and land use planning as related to the sections roles and responsibilities
  • Anticipate business opportunities influence policy planning and initiatives and foster a culture of accountability through performance measurement
  • Integrate multi-disciplinary teams to work collaboratively with business partners to support corporate priorities
  • Build new and innovative collaborative partnerships with external agencies orders of government community organizations and internal departments and branches
  • Knowledge training and/or education in Engineering Urban Planning or a related discipline
  • Experience working with transportation planning and/or land use and policy planning or similar complex municipal planning
  • Leadership experience within a large complex organization managing a multi-disciplinary team including the development of staff
  • Combinations of education and/or experience will be considered

Assets:

  • Experience working with municipal policy and provincial legislation in a multidisciplinary context
  • Professional Engineer (.) in good standing and registered as practicing with APEGA. Applicants in a different Canadian jurisdiction eligible for Inter-Provincial Mobility (IPMA) with APEGA may be considered
  • Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation
  • Additional training in financial management public administration government relations project management and/or change management
