Rougham CE Primary School are looking to recruit an experienced and passionate Music Teacher or teachers to work on a self-employed basis for a minimum of 14 hours per week (including 2 hours planning time) during term time from May or September 2026. This is a wonderful opportunity to build on an already thriving musical culture at our small rural school near Bury St. Edmunds. Thanks to generous local funding our current music teacher has been able to develop our music curriculum offer and opportunities for extracurricular activities to ensure that music is at the heart of our school. We are now looking for someone to continue her work when she leaves us in the summer term.

You will:

  • have a good understanding of the National Curriculum and be able to deliver whole class music lessons from Reception - Year 6
  • promote the ethos that music is for all and encourage a love of music throughout the school
  • run a String Programme delivering weekly violin cello and guitar lessons to small groups of pupils in Years 2 - 6
  • support the organising and delivery of concerts
  • liaise with the Trust who finance music at the school
  • offer extracurricular musical activities such as a choir and band
  • be adaptable and able to work as part of a team
  • demonstrate good communication skills both with staff parents and pupils
  • be committed to bringing out the very best in every child

QTS is desirable but not essential.

Ideally we would like the role to undertaken by a one person but there is flexibility to separate the whole class teaching and extracurricular elements to create two addition there may be opportunities to deliver 1 to 1 instrumental lessons on a private basis before and after school and during lunchtimes.
