Job Description
The Department of Philosophy at Virginia Tech invites applications for an Instructor position to begin August 10 2026. We seek a colleague with a PhD in Philosophy whose teaching interests will strengthen our undergraduate curriculum and departmental community. The area of specialization (AOS) and area of concentration (AOC) are open. Successful candidates for this position will have a commitment to contributing positively to a supportive departmental community.
An Instructor in the Department of Philosophy will teach a 44 undergraduate course load. We welcome candidates who can teach general philosophy courses including introductory and foundational offerings such as Knowledge and Reality Critical Thinking Morality and Justice and Global Ethics. While there are no research expectations the successful candidate will have service expectations including department and college service. This is a full-time non-tenure-track two-year appointment with the possibility of multi-year renewal based on performance and the availability of funding.
