Construction Technologist
Contract Duration: April 27 2026 April 23 2027
Work Location: Vernon Office (Full-Time) with Site Visits
Work Arrangement: After 6 months potential to work from home 12 days per week
Pay Rates: Incorporated: $85/hour T4: $70.25/hour
Role Overview
The Construction Technologist supports construction projects through planning estimating scheduling and field coordination activities. The role involves cost estimation quantity takeoffs procurement support project scheduling and providing technical guidance to construction teams.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma of Technology from an institute of technology OR
- Degree in a construction-related field such as: Engineering Forestry Architecture Project Management Construction Management Business Administration Quantity Surveying OR A related trades qualification such as: Electrician Winder Power Line Technician General Tradesperson Millwright
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in construction and/or project management (field or office).
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Cost Control
- Prepare detailed cost estimates based on engineering specifications and contract requirements.
- Research and recommend efficient construction methods to minimize labour equipment and scheduling impacts.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and calculate material and component costs.
- Assess project risks and incorporate them into estimates and pricing.
- Apply appropriate markups to ensure recovery of overhead costs.
Scheduling & Project Coordination
- Develop project work schedules and coordinate construction activities.
- Maintain project progress data including graphs charts and reporting tools.
- Review cost and progress reports to compare projected vs. estimated costs.
- Identify scheduling impacts and recommend corrective actions.
Technical & Field Support
- Provide technical coordination and advice to field crews and project stakeholders.
- Participate in construction project teams and support project execution.
- Assist with design drawings drafting and site surveys when required.
- Operate electrical testing equipment and prepare technical reports as needed.
Procurement & Documentation
- Obtain pricing and technical information from suppliers and vendors.
- Review drawings specifications and material lists.
- Prepare documentation for procurement of materials equipment and subcontract services.
- Compile bid documentation and analyze contractor submissions.
Reporting & Analysis
- Maintain records for equipment costs production rates and materials pricing.
- Prepare technical and non-routine reports related to project activities.
- Verify quantity calculations and assist with bid analysis.
Technical Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge in Civil Mechanical or Electrical disciplines with working knowledge of at least one additional discipline.
- Knowledge of industry standards and applicable codes.
- Understanding of generation substation transmission and distribution facilities and related equipment.
- Construction estimating and scheduling expertise.
- Basic drafting and design capabilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of project management principles and financial processes.
- Proficiency with construction estimating scheduling and project management software.
- Excellent communication interpersonal and negotiation skills.
Mandatory Requirements
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License
- Personal vehicle available for site visits
