4th Grade Lead Homeroom Teacher (Math Emphasis)
The Nueva Lower School seeks a full-time 4th Grade Lead Teacher who is passionate about integrated project-based learning. This role collaborates with a grade-level team to design and teach curriculum connected to a year-long theme while supporting the development of foundational skills in reading writing and a partially departmentalized structure this teacher also leads the grade-level math curriculum cultivating both strong foundational skills and deep mathematical thinking through inquiry problem solving and project-based learning.
This teacher helps guide students through a culminating year-end project and co-chaperones an overnight trip in late April or May. Full-time teachers also support student well-being differentiate instruction write narrative reports maintain a weekly parent blog and mentor an associate teacher.

A Day in the Life
You may begin your day welcoming students into a classroom that centers curiosity belonging and joyful learning. Each day generally begins with a morning meeting where you build community connect with students and set the tone for the day. Morning lessons might include math instruction grounded in problem solving inquiry and differentiated approaches.
Midday you collaborate with our Innovation Lab team to support in grade level computer science classes or design engineering. Depending on the day you might instead be leading a small book group.
You supervise a recess in the Forts a beloved play space where students climb trees and build from natural objects or on a field where students play active soccer football or theater games.
You might choose to enjoy the provided lunch in the cafe with colleagues or in quiet indoor or outdoor space on campus. Then you join the built-in team collaborative planning time to co-construct upcoming theme units that integrate social studies and design thinking into a broader project tied to the year-long theme. You also collaboratively reflect on student work and learning to guide changes in upcoming teaching.
Throughout the day you check in with students socially and emotionally adapting instruction to meet diverse needs. You facilitate student inquiry guide discussions and support problem-solving.
In the afternoon students may work thematic projects or prepare for a culminating presentation. You might connect with families through your weekly blog or collaborate with colleagues to refine curriculum and student supports.
During the week you meet with an associate teacher to plan instruction or provide mentorship. You also work collaboratively with our cross-grade math specialist learning specialist equity and inclusion specialist and social emotional learning specialist. You are part of a rich team that knows our students well and is creative and collaborative.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree
- Experience working with elementary-aged students
- Knowledge of literacy and math development
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Commitment to equity inclusion and culturally responsive teaching
Preferred Qualifications
- Three or more years of teaching experience
- Experience with project-based or inquiry-based learning
- Background in independent or progressive school settings
- Experience with interdisciplinary curriculum design
- Experience teaching math
- Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction effectively
Compensation and Benefits
The full-time equivalent salary range for this position is $80800 - $166000. The starting salary is based upon but not limited to several factors that include type and years of experience education level and expertise.
