Job Summary
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Environmental Health and Radiation Safety the Laboratory Safety Technician will work with EHRS team members to assist in the management of laboratory safety with an emphasis on chemical hygiene biological safety and radiation safety.
Essential Functions
- Assist in overall compliance goals of Drexel University through the routine inspection of research and academic laboratories review of research protocols training of personnel periodic sampling surveying or testing of safety equipment the development of written compliance programs and associated paperwork and data entry for record keeping; manage required supplies and equipment.
- Responsible for Laboratory Safety Inspections Chemical Fume Hood Inspections Eye Wash and Safety Shower Inspections Training Compliance Biological Safety Containment Equipment Certifications and Hazardous Materials management.
- Conduct routine audits to ensure compliance with the Universitys policies and procedures.
- Provide emergency response to hazardous material releases; Implement and manage the Universitys Hazardous Material Emergency Response Plan. Provide technical advice on hazardous materials to other University entities as needed.
- Must comply with all applicable federal state and local regulations as well as University policies. Must have knowledge of the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard Occupational Exposures to Hazardous Chemicals in the Laboratory Standard Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.
- Demonstrate safe work practices and avoid unsafe behaviors.
- Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
- Must comply with all applicable federal state and local regulations as well as University policies.
- Must be able to lift greater than or equal to 50 pounds.
- This position is considered to be Essential Personnel. And as such must be available and able to respond off hours or as directed by the Executive Director of Environmental Health and Radiation Safety. Must be able to coordinate remotely and plan with other team members during times of illness or vacation.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry Safety Biology or other science field orthe equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
- Must have knowledge of the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard Occupational Exposures to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories Standard and Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.
Preferred Qualifications
- 40 hr HAZWOPER Certification preferred but not required.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Proficient with standard office software.
- Valid drivers license.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt grade J. Compensation for this grade ranges from$47490 to $71230 per year. Please note that the offered rate for thisposition typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade but it can vary based on thesuccessful candidates qualifications and experience department budget and an internal equity review.
