Lead Histotechnologist (Healthcare Services Senior Professional)

Job Summary: | The Department of Pathology is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) Lead Histotechnologist position. The Lead Histotech will be responsible for processing microtomy special stains and IHC staining for all specimens received in the Histology addition to the above job duties the Lead Histotechnologist will assist in overseeing the daily departmental staff direct workflow as needed troubleshoot delicate instrumentation assist the Histotechnologists with troubleshooting/investigating embedding issues microtomy issues special stain and immunohistochemical stain issues that arise daily. Key Responsibilities: - 45% Histology Bench Work
- Performing IHC Special Stains Boards daily microtomy QCing slides and cutting boards
- Assisting in the validation of new assays
- Processing CAP studies required for compliance
- 40% Workflow
- Appreciating and directing staffing resources where needed
- Ensuring all benches have adequate coverage to meet pathologists expectations of TAT
- Improving workflow systems within the laboratory.
- Implementing new policies and procedures
- 10% Human Resource
- Working as a liaison between the histotechnologists and the leadership and vice versa to improve communications
- Reporting any personnel issues that need addressing to leadership of the histology laboratory.
- 5% Troubleshooting
- Aiding and leading investigations into failed tests and reporting findings to leadership of the histology laboratory

Qualifications: | Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship. We are unable to provide workvisasponsorship or employment authorization for this position now or in the future. - A bachelors degree in a biological health or social science or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
- 2 years of clinical histology laboratory experience
- Histotechnician or Histotechnologist Certification (HTL ASCP)
A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelors degree on a year for year basis. Preferred Qualifications: - Three years of experience in a clinical histology lab.
- Immunohistochemistry Certification (QIHC ASCP).
- Experience using laboratory equipment such as complex machinery and staining systems.
- Experience calculating lab results and data using math and analytical skills.
- Experience using MS Word and Excel. Preferred experience will include developing reports spreadsheets and databases using the mentioned software programs.
- Experience entering data into an electronic system.
- Experience purchasing and maintaining lab supplies.
- Experience cleaning and maintaining laboratories and lab equipment.
Conditions of Employment: - Lift push and/or pull up to 20 lbs.
- Work in an environment that may expose you to fumes chemicals liquid nitrogen extreme cold blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
- Frequently wash your hands as biohazardous materials may be present.
- Sit and stand for long periods of time frequently walk and bend/stoop as well as execute repetitive motions.
- Work with complex and sharp laboratory equipment and various chemical and biological solutions.
- Wear appropriate safety equipment when handling biological samples and hazardous chemicals.
- Work within a high-level secured facility.
