We are seeking a dedicated Project Engineer with specialized expertise in overhead and underground electrical distribution systems to lead design efforts for Toronto Hydro this role you will provide engineering oversight and technical direction for the development of distribution infrastructure including underground cable systems pole lines and service connections. You will act as a key technical liaison between design teams project managers and external stakeholders to ensure all deliverables meet Toronto Hydro standards Ontario utility codes and project timelines.
What a day at EXP has in store for you
- Lead the development and technical review of plan and profile drawings cable routings and pole line designs. Ensure the accuracy of electrical schematics equipment layouts and detailed construction drawings.
- Oversee the preparation of comprehensive construction packages verify Bills of Materials (BOM) and validate cost estimates. Manage the transition from design to construction including the review of field data and final approval of as-built drawings.
- Ensure all designs rigorously adhere to Toronto Hydro specifications. Perform and seal (where applicable) complex technical calculations including pole loading voltage drop and cable pulling analysis. Evaluate equipment specifications to determine the best technical solutions.
- Direct the process for obtaining necessary permits and approvals. Review technical studies surveys and load data to ensure designs are constructible and compliant with municipal regulations.
- Supervise the calculation of inverted elevations in congested utility corridors. Validate the correlation of utility records and survey files to confirm existing underground and aerial assets in accordance with Subsurface Utility Engineering standards.
What your experience looks like
- Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Registered with the P.E.O as a .
- Minimum 3 years of engineering experience in the utility sector with a specific focus on the full lifecycle of electrical distribution design and construction.
- Advanced technical proficiency in MicroStation (2D/3D) and AutoCAD. Ability to utilize Toronto Hydros internal GIS and proficiency in SAP for project controls (material ordering inventory management and work order generation).
- Expert-level knowledge of Toronto Hydro Standard Design Practice (SDP) and construction standards is mandatory.
- Extensive engineering experience with civil utility projects including duct bank design/rerouting cable chambers underground tunneling secondary service upgrades switchgear foundations and vault installations.
- Expertise in performing non-linear pole loading analysis and design verification usingSpidaCalc. Advanced ability to perform and review manual and software-basedcable pulling calculations(e.g. Pull Planner) andvoltage drop calculations.
- Regulatory & Permitting:
- Comprehensive knowledge ofCity of Toronto Municipal Consent Requirements (MCR) including management of full stream and short stream cut permits.
- Knowledge ofToronto Regional Conservation Authority (TRCA)regulations.
- Experience managingMetrolinxpermitting (generating WPM and General Arrangement plans).
- Proven ability to securePark Access Agreementsfor City of Toronto parklands.
- Familiarity withHydro Onepermitting processes and technical submissions for cross-jurisdictional work.
In-depth knowledge of IHSA Electrical Utility Safety Rules and relevant Ontario safety codes.
