Job Summary
The Field Technicians duties include assisting with pipe repairs landscaping minor road repairs after-hours support and general labor activities.
Responsibilities
Review service orders to determine locations where meter readings need to be performed
Read water meters and enter data in route logs
Maintains required paperwork and logs in compliance with Federal State and local rules and regulations
Inspect meters and connections to determine defects faults and damages
Repairs and/or replaces broken water mains and service lines
Communicate problems with meters or incorrect readings to the Supervisor & Project Manager
Operates a company vehicle to conduct meter readings for assigned route
Connect and disconnect utility services as directed
Ensure that all data in the utility log book is maintained correctly and kept updated
Perform general landscape maintenance including mowing trimming clean-ups pruning and other typical landscape maintenance tasks
Performs other related duties as directed
Qualifications
Job Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Valid drivers license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Records are required
1-year experience in water distribution maintenance or servicing industry preferred but not required
Ability to work independently
Ability to understand water systems and concepts
Strong attention to detail
Must be available to work weekends overtime and on-call as needed
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor in outdoor environments including extreme weather conditions (heat cold rain snow).
- Regularly required to stand walk bend kneel crouch climb and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted; occasionally required to lift heavier objects with assistance or mechanical aids.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces and at elevated heights including ladders scaffolding or into vaults manholes and tanks.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle tools operate valves and use instrumentation or control devices.
- Visual and auditory ability to detect identify and diagnose equipment malfunctions or leaks in piping and system components.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including respiratory protection safety harnesses gloves and protective clothing.
- Able to safely enter and work in hazardous environments including those with strong odors loud noise and potential chemical exposure.
- Must maintain physical readiness to respond quickly to emergency repairs or system failures including after-hours or on-call assignments.
