Schedule: PM Shift Tuesday Saturday (Hours will vary depending on operational need typically 2:00 pm 11:00 pm)
Position Summary:
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading all evening maintenance operations in a high-volume food processing facility. This role ensures that all plant equipmentincluding mechanical electrical refrigeration automation and material handling systemsis operating safely efficiently and in compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical background excellent leadership skills and a proactive approach to maintaining critical systems to minimize downtime and maximize productivity on the PM shift.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and direct PM shift maintenance technicians in troubleshooting repairing and maintaining production equipment including conveyors baggers slicers chillers forklifts and automated systems.
- Oversee the maintenance of refrigeration systems (ammonia and/or Freon-based) ensuring compliance with PSM/RMP programs and emergency protocols.
- Ensure effective troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems including motors control panels PLCs VFDs and low- and high-voltage equipment.
- Monitor and maintain material handling equipment including daily checks and scheduled repairs on forklifts pallet jacks and chargers per OSHA standards.
- Coordinate preventive and predictive maintenance activities using the plants CMMS (UpKeep); review work orders and assign tasks efficiently.
- Work closely with Production Sanitation QA and Safety departments to support daily goals and minimize equipment-related downtime.
- Uphold strict adherence to GMPs food safety programs (HACCP FSMA) and Cal/OSHA safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance work equipment history and parts usage/inventory.
- Train mentor and evaluate evening maintenance staff fostering a culture of safety accountability and continuous improvement.
- Support capital projects equipment installations and process upgrades as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade certification in mechanical electrical or industrial maintenance preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Mechanical repair and preventive maintenance
- Electrical systems (480V control wiring sensors VFDs)
- Automation/PLC systems (Allen-Bradley preferred)
- Refrigeration systems (ammonia and/or Freon)
- Forklift/PIT equipment maintenance and safety
- Experience in a food processing or cold-chain environment is highly preferred.
- Proficiency with CMMS and Microsoft Office tools.
- Excellent troubleshooting decision-making and communication skills.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
- Must be flexible and responsive to after-hours calls or emergency maintenance as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in cold wet noisy environments typical of food processing facilities.
- Must be able to stand walk bend climb ladders and lift up to 75 lbs.
- Willingness to work variable hours based on production and maintenance needs.
