Lighthouse is seeking an experienced Cytologist to join a leading laboratory team in the Raleigh/Durham NC area. Schedule: Monday Friday 8:00 AM 4:30 PM (Day Shift)
Pay Rate: $48/hour
Position Summary:
The Cytologist III performs highly specialized and complex tasks related to the screening and evaluation of clinical cytology specimens to detect evidence of cancer and other pathological conditions. This role requires advanced knowledge of cellular morphology including normal reactive inflammatory and treatment-related changes. The Cytologist III serves as a senior technical resource playing a key role in quality assurance staff development and the implementation of new laboratory procedures and technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Screen and evaluate cytology slides to identify abnormal cellular changes including malignant and pre-malignant conditions.
- Assess specimen adequacy and preparation quality using a comprehensive understanding of staining and preparation techniques.
- Apply advanced knowledge of cellular morphology including physiological variations inflammatory processes and treatment-related effects (e.g. chemotherapy and radiation).
- Take a lead role in the development validation and implementation of new procedures instrumentation and laboratory technologies.
- Serve as a technical expert and resource for staff within assigned areas of responsibility.
- Perform specialized testing that may span multiple laboratory disciplines.
- Train and mentor new employees in both theoretical knowledge and practical laboratory procedures; evaluate competency and performance.
- Assist leadership with the review and maintenance of laboratory procedures reports and quality control programs.
- Support compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards including CAP and other governing agencies.
- Organize and maintain up-to-date technical resources and reference materials for the department.
- Oversee departmental proficiency testing to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Assume primary responsibility for updating and reviewing departmental procedure manuals.
- Assist in the annual evaluation of technical staff performance.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelors Degree in Cytotechnology or related Science field (Required)
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical laboratory experience (Required)
Licensure/Certification:
- Certified Cytotechnologist (Required)
