The Position: Reporting directly to the Provost the Associate Provost for Student Success (APPS) provides vision and leadership for the undergraduate and the post baccalaureate credential and graduate educational mission of the University and is the principal deputy of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs in matters of curriculum academic policy academic advising and academic support services. The APSS plays a critical role in university student success initiatives. The incumbent supervises the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and the Executive Director of Academic Advising. The APSS works collaboratively with the University Academic Senate the Division of Student Life Enrollment Services and the college deans chairs and faculty to ensure that undergraduate and graduate students are well-served. The Office of Undergraduate Studies is responsible for curriculum the catalog course articulation university academic support centers Writing Across the Curriculum Early Start and Institutional Effectiveness. The APSS supervises the Center for Academic Success (including the testing tutoring and writing centers and peer support) and leads academic advising initiatives and supervises and the University Academic Advisement Center. The APSS provides leadership and support for graduation rate initiatives advises the Provost and college deans of important trends and initiatives in undergraduate and graduate education at the CSU in California and around the nation as they relate to the mission and goals of Cal State LA. The APSS administers the Interdisciplinary Studies MA/MS program including serving as the graduate adviser for the program. The incumbent provides orientation for New Graduate Students in Fall and Spring semesters; oversees of student support programs including the Graduate Resource Center Sally Casanova Pre-Doctoral Program and the Chancellors Doctoral Incentive Program. |
Required Qualifications & Experience: Doctoral degree from an accredited university in a discipline represented at Cal State LA. A record of peer-reviewed research teaching and service sufficient to merit an appointment as a tenured full professor at Cal State LA. At least three years of progressive leadership experience in an institution of higher education. Demonstrated commitment to student success. Incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position. California State University Los Angeles as part of the CSU system is a State of California Employer. As such the University requires all employees upon date of hire to reside in the State of California. As of January 1 2022 the CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSU-related work outside the state of California. |
Desired Qualifications: Experience overseeing staff including assigning tasks managing workflow and evaluating performance. A record of success leading innovation large-scale initiatives and organizational improvement resulting in academic excellence and student success in diverse higher education context(s). A demonstrated record of transparent data-informed decision-making in policy strategies and implementation of initiatives in higher education. A record of effective collaborative leadership in a shared governance environment. A successful record of innovation in undergraduate and/or graduate curriculum development demonstrated commitment to diversity equity inclusion and belonging. An excellent record of integrity professionalism interpersonal skills and ethical decision-making. Senior leadership experience in and/or an understanding of the California State University (CSU) system. Demonstrated excellence in organizational communication and collaboration across all levels of university administration. Successful administrative experience at the college or university level in undergraduate and/or graduate education. Demonstrated leadership in the design and operation of university curriculum. Familiarity with processes and procedures in a multi-campus university system. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across all levels and divisions within the university. Demonstrated expertise in data analysis forecasting data visualizations and effectively communicating quantitative information to varied audiences. A documented record of successful planning and managing academic budgets in higher education. |
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $10106- $32441/monthly. (Budgeted Hiring Salary Range $17500 - $19584/monthly) A comprehensive benefits package is provided. |
Appointment: The Administrator IV appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan. This position is a designated position in the California State Universitys Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission. |
