Job Overview:A Tree Service Truck and Equipment Mechanicplaysa crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment ranging from light to heavy-duty trucks bucket trucks skid loaderstoolcats and grapple trucks. Mechanicsare responsible fordiagnosing repairing andmaintainingthis specialized equipment to support the tree service operations. The position requires a strong mechanical background problem-solving skills and a commitment to safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance:Perform regular maintenance inspections and repairs on light medium and heavy-duty trucks and equipment to ensure they are inoptimalworkingcondition. This includes checking engine performance brakes electrical systems hydraulic systems and other components.

  • Diagnostic Troubleshooting:Diagnose mechanical electrical and hydraulic issues in trucks and equipment using various diagnostic tools and root cause of problems and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime.

  • Preventive Maintenance:Develop and adhere to a comprehensive preventive maintenance program to reduce the likelihood of unexpected breakdowns and extend the lifespan of vehicles and equipment.

  • Repair and Replacement:Conduct repairs on faulty parts and components or recommend replacements when with the procurement team to ensuretimelyavailability of replacement parts.

  • Documentation and Reporting:Maintainaccuraterecords of maintenance and repairs performed on each vehicle and equipment. Generate reports on equipment condition maintenance schedules and repair history. Proper documentation is crucial for tracking maintenance schedules andidentifyingrecurring issues.

  • Upgrading Skills:Mechanics must stay updated on the latest advancements in automotive or equipment technology. They may attendworkshops andseminars or undergo manufacturer-specific training to enhance their skills and knowledge. Mechanics may be needed toassistin enhancing policies procedures and best practices byutilizingtheir knowledge experience and mechanical understanding to upgrade the skills of thoseoperatingthe equipment.

  • Safety Compliance:Ensure that all trucks and equipment meet safety standards and regulations. Conduct regular safety inspections and address any safety concerns promptly.

  • Emergency Repairs:Be available for emergency repairs and breakdowns to minimize downtime andmaintainoperational efficiency.

  • Team Collaboration:Collaborate with other team members including operators and supervisors to coordinate maintenance schedules and prioritize equipment repairs.

  • Equipment Upgrades and Modifications:Recommend and implement equipment upgrades or modifications to enhance performance efficiency and safety.

  • Field Repair Work:May be needed to do repairs in the field.

JobQualifications:

  • Proven experience as a mechanic working on light medium and heavy-duty trucks and equipment.

  • Familiarity with hydraulic systems electrical systems and diesel engines.

  • Proficiencyin diagnostic tools and equipment.

  • Welding and fabrication skills areadvantageous.

  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to equipment operation and maintenance.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Physical stamina and dexterity to handle equipment repairs and maintenance tasks.

  • Valid drivers license

  • DOT inspector certificate

  • Commercial drivers license isadvantageous

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate professionally both verbal and in writing with thegeneral public customers and fellow employees.

  • Must be able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) asrequired.

  • Needs to be able to enter and exit a vehiclenumeroustimes per day.

  • Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work tasks such as rain heat sun cold snow. Including working in varying temperatures: 90F to -25F.

  • Must be able to write read andcomprehendwritten and verbal job instructions/information in English.

  • Must be able to communicate with others and represent Carrs Tree Service in a professional manner.

  • Ability tooperateand service all required tools and equipment.

  • Ability to work in conditions/areas which may include dust pollen smoke noxious weeds poison ivy bees and other insects.

  • Drive andoperatevehicles and equipment within DOT OSHA and manufacturer regulations.
