ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for an experienced development professional to join our team in Brusselsasour Policy and AdvocacyManagerfor Italy and the Netherlands.The Policy & Advocacy Manager will provide analysis andmake recommendationson key development policy issues as well assupport the implementation of ourEUadvocacy strategyin these countries. The Policy & Advocacy Manager willwork closely with government officialsNGOs and other decision makers and opinion formersin order todeliver ONEsobjectives. The ideal candidate willpossessexcellent knowledge of global development policy issues as well as demonstrable knowledge and understanding ofpolitical landscape in Italy and the Netherlands. They must bea great teamplayer and self-starter with excellent communications skills and analytical ability.The Policy & Advocacy Manager will be based in our Brussels office and will report to theEU Director.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

  • Represent ONE at meetings and conferences on relevant policy topics as needed.
  • Working with the EU Directorand consulting with other members of the Italy and Netherlands teamsdesign and implementation of ONEs advocacy strategy in Italy and the Netherlands developing/maintainingrelationships including with government officials politicians NGOs and think tanks.
  • Manageconsultants commission and perform general research and policy analysis on ONEs policy work relating to a broad range of development issues including but not limited to ODA global healthclimatefinancingandtransparencyand accountability.
  • Advise on activities forONEs Youth Ambassador volunteer programs in Italy and the Netherlands providing guidance and support to ensure ONEs public campaigning and advocacy work iseffectively supporting our policy-change goals inboth markets.
  • Prepare documents on specific development issues for a range ofinternal and externalaudiences includingpolicy pitchestalking pointsbriefingsfor ONE staff volunteersand/or Principalsreportsandmediaarticles.
  • Monitor and keep theteamand widerorganisationinformed of news on development policiesin Italyand the Netherlands.
  • Provide themarket-specificperspectivesto global policydiscussions andensure policy positions are compatible withtargetaudiencesin Rome and the Hague. Work internally across organisational teams toidentifyandleverageopportunities for policy change on these issues.
  • Prepare ONEs positions on key areas of the EUs development policy and contribute to development of new / emerging policy areas within theorganisation
  • Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or the designee.

WHATYOU BRING TO ONE

  • Bachelors degreein economicslawor a development-related fieldpreferred.
  • Sixto eight years work experience ina policy advocacy government orcampaignsrole with at least 3 years working within the European Institutions orfora Member State government.
  • Excellent researchwritingand analytical skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills with experience of presenting to senior staff and externalaudiences.
  • Ability to synthesize policy documentsidentifyingrelevant key points and facts and statistics that help explain complicated policy topics to broad audiences in a concise way.
  • A demonstrable understanding of the links between policy lobbyingcampaigningand media work and of how policy change can be achieved through effective advocacy.
  • Fluent in English and Italian and/or Dutch.
  • Ability to work as part of a global team and in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and workloads.
  • Generallyverywell-organised; proven ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to consistently apply good judgment and make good and responsible decisions.
  • Ability tomaintainthe highest degree of confidentialityregardingall aspects of work at all times.
  • Desire and ability to travelregularly(up to 10%)usually for 2-3 days at a time
  • A commitment to ONEs mission and policy priorities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Fluency in English required as well as either Italian and/or Dutch.

TRAVEL

Travel up to 10% usually for 2-3 days at a time.

WORKPLACE FLEXIBILITY OPTIONS

A flexible workplace schedule is available working up to 3 days per week remotely.

COMPENSATION RANGE

4508 - 5860

Pay range as posted reflects the minimum to the midpoint of the external market salary range that ONE has adopted for this job level in the EU. This salary range is based on compensation survey data for similar organizations and is used to set pay internally at ONE. Where a new hires salary falls within this range is based on a variety of factors including the budget available for this position.
