Position Overview
As an Engineering Inspector 2 you will play a critical role in supporting the Citys infrastructure development by overseeing and inspecting both developer-led and municipal capital projects.
This is a dynamic position that combines field inspection technical analysis project coordination and stakeholder engagement. You will be responsible for ensuring that construction projects meet design specifications safety standards and regulatory requirements while upholding the Citys commitment to quality and innovation.
This role offers a high degree of autonomy in the field along with the opportunity to contribute to major municipal projects that shape the communitys growth.

Employment Type: Full-Time Permanent
Salary Range: $39.93 to $47.02 per hour
Key Responsibilities
- Review construction drawings and plans for subdivisions and municipal projects to ensure compliance with design criteria bylaws and specifications
- Conduct inspections of roads drainage systems waterworks and sanitary sewer infrastructure
- Ensure adherence to safety quality and regulatory standards across all projects
- Identify deficiencies safety hazards or substandard workmanship and ensure timely resolution
- Plan schedule and administer municipal construction projects including roads drainage water and sewer systems
- Prepare tender documents cost estimates technical reports and project recommendations
- Process contractor payments and progress reports and coordinate materials testing
- Oversee and monitor the work of contractors municipal crews and utility companies
- Respond to public inquiries and complaints providing clear guidance and resolution
- Collaborate with internal departments consultants and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery
Requirements
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong public relations skills with the ability to manage interactions with the public and contractors in high-pressure environments
- In-depth knowledge of municipal engineering standards related to land servicing and infrastructure development
- Solid understanding of construction methods materials tools and equipment used in municipal projects
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings specifications and contract documents
- Working knowledge of budgeting and cost control within engineering programs
- Ability to plan schedule and manage multiple projects effectively
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to prepare detailed reports records and technical documentation
- Knowledge of WorkSafeBC and provincial safety regulations
- Ability to assess quality of workmanship and materials and prepare accurate field reports
Qualifications
- Diploma from an Institute of Technology in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Significant related experience in municipal engineering or infrastructure inspection
Certifications and Licenses
- Certification or eligibility for Certified Public Works Inspector Level II (CPWI Level II) through ASTTBC
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License in British Columbia
