A role in Sourcing means having a hand in developing products that have a positive impact on people and the planet. The Sourcing team starts at the very earliest stages of product development builds out the costing models and tracks where product stands at every step in the production cycle from overseas shipping to our import warehouses distribution centers and stores. And since Target is indeed a global company youll be part of the team that manages global relationships in partnership with the buying team who shop for trends all over the world. Your ability to stay aware of our suppliers activities will help ensure compliance with responsible practices and youll have influence over which manufacturers Target chooses to work with. Youll be a close point-of-contact with Target team members in sourcing offices located in 20 countries around the globe and youll support their work as liaisons among buyers product developers and overseas partners.
About the Role
The Sr. Manager Commodity Management supports Owned Brands (OB) Food & Beverage Sourcing by leading commodity strategies that deliver cost optimization supply assurance and risk mitigation across key raw material categories. This role applies deep market insight should-cost modeling and supplier collaboration to enable competitive safe and reliable OB F&B products.
Partnering closely with OB F&B sourcing leaders and cross-functional stakeholders the Sr. Manager assesses market conditions manages supplier and material risk and supports complex sourcing and negotiation strategies. Through strong analytical rigor and executive-ready communication this role translates commodity performance risks and opportunities into clear recommendations that protect supply continuity and support Owned Brands growth.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of commodity strategies supporting Owned Brands Food & Beverage balancing cost quality service and supply risk
Identify and deliver raw material cost reduction and supply assurance initiatives aligned to Owned Brands product and sourcing priorities
Analyze market dynamics ingredient cost drivers and supply risks (capacity constraints volatility geopolitical exposure) to inform OB F&B sourcing strategies
Oversee should-cost modeling benchmarking and opportunity assessments for key ingredients and materials to support pricing transparency and negotiations
Lead supplier and ingredient sourcing initiatives ensuring contracts include appropriate commercial quality food safety and risk protections
Define and implement risk mitigation strategies (e.g. dual sourcing alternate ingredients inventory strategies) to protect continuity of OB F&B supply
Partner with Owned Brands sourcing leaders and cross-functional teams (Quality Food Safety Regulatory Finance) to align on strategy and risk mitigation plans
Communicate commodity performance ingredient risks and recommendations to senior leadership through clear actionable reporting
About you:
Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Business Economics or related field
6-8 years of experience in strategic sourcing commodity management or supply chain roles
Demonstrated experience with should-cost analysis cost modeling and total cost of ownership evaluation
Strong understanding of commodity market volatility and supply risk factors
Proven ability to influence stakeholders and lead complex negotiations
Strong analytical communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced matrixed environment
