This position performs radiation therapy and radiographic procedures involving the application of X-rays and radioactive substances to patients. The incumbent operates specialized X-ray equipment as prescribed by the physician keeps treatment records and prepares operational reports as required. This role is responsible for providing direct patient care and applying ionizing radiation in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the radiation oncologist.
Key Responsibilities
Treatment Delivery & Patient Care
Perform radiation therapy treatments as prescribed
Explain treatment procedures to patients and ensure comfort
Prepare treatment room and equipment; transfer and position patients for treatment
Maintain treatment records in the patients electronic medical chart
Perform weekly checks of patients electronic chart for completeness and accuracy
Clinical & Technical Duties
Photograph patients in treatment position and observe for unusual skin reactions or side effects
Perform tumor localization using image guidance modalities
Maintain supplies and custom treatment devices in the treatment room
Schedule patients for treatment on treatment machines
Perform daily quality and safety checks of Linear Accelerator and other treatment equipment
Education & Service Recovery
Teach clinical intern students
Perform service recovery as needed
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Licenses & Certifications
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through University of Utah Health RQI system to be obtained within 30 days of hire)
Active license to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in the State of Utah
Credentialed in Radiation Therapy Technology by the American Registry of Radiology (ARRT)
Experience
Minimum two (2) years of radiation therapy experience or equivalency
Physical Requirements
Ability to consistently lift carry push pull or move objects up to 100 pounds (medical equipment or patients)
Capable of far vision near vision listening reaching sitting speaking standing walking
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Human relations and effective communication skills
Ability to perform verification checks and apply quality assurance procedures for dose calculation accuracy
Knowledge of age-specific care and life-span growth and development principles
Ability to follow department policies procedures and checklists for safe accurate treatments
Knowledge of accurate charging for procedures performed
