40Job Description Summary:
Provides Diagnostic Ultrasound examinations to patients under the general supervision of the Medical Chief of Radiology. The Ultrasound Tech I is a sonographer who possesses one (1) RDMS (Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) board certification (options: Abdomen or OB/GYN). The Ultrasound Tech II is a sonographer who possesses two (2) RDMS board certifications (options: Abdomen OB/GYN Pediatric). The job requires that the Ultrasound Tech exercise mature and independent judgment. Ultrasound Tech may be assigned duties of an instructor in areas of demonstrated expertise.Job Requirements Prerequisites and Essential Functions:

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
An Associate of Science (A.S.) degree is highly desirable
Experience:
For Ultrasound Tech I no experience as a paid Ultrasound Tech is required. Clinical student internship experience as part of accredited training program is required.
For Ultrasound Tech II two years full time experience as a paid Ultrasound Tech in an acute care facility is required. Ability to competently perform all the examinations listed in the job summary.
License and Certifications:
Basic Life Support Required at hire
Reg Diag Medical Sonographer Specified at hire
Integrative Agitation Management (IAM) Required within 30 days of hire
Prerequisite Skills:
Technical ability to perform all diagnostic Ultrasound examinations as outlined in the MGH Diagnostic Imaging Services department policy and procedure manual
Ability to interact with general public clients staff and referring physicians with diplomacy tact and goodwill
Able to communicate effectively with patients who are under stress
Ability to participate in department team quality improvement activities

The protected health information a person in this position can access includes demographics date of service insurance/billing medical record summary information and all other information that may be contained in patient records. This position requires patient health information to perform the functions outlined as part of this position description.
Duties And Responsibilities:
Essential (Not Modifiable)
Reviews patient medical history and results of previous diagnostic studies. Integrates knowledge of patient history with examination to be performed
Competently performs all sonographic examinations as outlined in the department policy and procedure manual
Selects appropriate equipment to perform exam. Selects appropriate technical factors to optimize image quality. Records images with proper patient identification. Records images on film and other archival media. Annotates images accurately
Sends results to Radiologist for medical interpretation. May discuss findings with Radiologists for optimal interpretation
Assists Radiologists with performance of Invasive Procedures. Performs first aid as necessary
Effectively explains exam to patient in order to elicit cooperation and reduce apprehension. Assists patient in positioning for optimal exam results
Competently uses universal precautions when working with patients in isolation status and in sterile surgery. Practices sterile technique as required. Prevents cross contamination. Maintains a clean procedure area. Cleans equipment as needed
Attends and participates in department meetings
Provides for the safety mental and physical comfort of the patient while performing ultrasound examinations
Ability to accurately troubleshoot ultrasound equipment in order to knowledgeably communicate need for repair to service personnel. Reports equipment failure to Lead Sonographer or Director of Imaging in order to expedite repair and plan for appropriate patient triage. Keeps orderly equipment repair logbooks
Uses effective critical thinking skills in order to implement alternative methods when problems arise so that satisfactory solutions are achieved
Knowledgeable about equipment down time procedures for Radiology Information System
Effectively schedules and prioritizes work assignments for maximum productivity
Effectively responds to emergency situations. Able to integrate emergency work into regularly scheduled responsibilities
Accurately uses hospital information system to process patient information
Attends continuing education in order to maintain certification licensure and accreditation and clinical competencies
Constantly promotes a positive and professional image in the hospital
Performs special projects at the request of Radiological Technologist III or Director Cardiovascular/Neurovascular Services

The posted pay range complies with applicable law and reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this role. Individual pay is set by skills experience qualifications and internal/market equity consistent with MarinHealths compensation philosophy.
