Key Responsibilities:
- Continuethe designdevelopmentandimplementation of theObservatorysIntegrated Protection Safety System.
- Leadthe definition oftelescope-levelusecases and operational scenariosdescribing the interaction of the CTAO telescopes with the surrounding systems.
- Collaborate withinstrumentcontributors (engineers and scientists) to evolve existinginstrumentcontrol designs incompliancewith observational and safety requirements.
- GuidetheCTAOIn-KindContributorcontrol-system developers to ensure compliance with industry standards reliability targets and safety regulations.
- Contribute to the definition and/or upgrade of engineering HumanMachine Interfaces (HMIs) across telescope systems including interface definitions and their implementation.
- Provide advice onspecific technical issues related to telescopeslikecontrol algorithms andcondition-monitoring systemsto enhance telescope performance and reliability.
QualificationsandExperience:
- Bachelors ormasters degree inelectricalengineeringcontrolengineeringsoftwareengineeringor a relateddiscipline with at least 10 years of experience.
- Proven experience in control system designand system integration.
- Strong understanding of industrial hardware standards and componentscommunicationconceptsand protocols on communication interface levels (CAN TCP/IP overProfiNET Modbusetc. includingProfiSafe)as wellashowtocover high-level conceptssuchas OPCUA and CORBA).
- Experience in HMI/SCADA design and integration.
- Proficiencyin at least one programming languagesuch as C C Java or Python.
- Experience in commissioning and operations of complex control systems.
- Excellent analytical problem-solving and system-level thinking skills.
- Strong collaboration and communication abilities in a multidisciplinary and multinational environmentis needed.
- Excellent communication skills and a command of English are essential.
Desirable Skills:
- Experiencewithengineering softwaretoolssuch asMATLAB/SimulinkandLabVIEW.
- Experience with embedded systemsPLCs and real-time operating environments.
- Experience intelescopes andastronomical observatoriesparticleacceleratorsorotherhigh-precisionscientific facilitiesas well asdataacquisitionwill be an asset.
- Experience with control frameworks such as EPICS TANGO or Alma Common Software is desirable.
- Understanding offunctional safety standards (IEC 61508 ISO 13849)andunderstandingCE certification.
- Ideally knowledgeofcybersecurity practices in networked control systems.
