Purpose:

We are currently recruiting for a Principal Process Engineer - Smelting and Refinery. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in either Oakville Markham or Sudbury Ontario.

The Principal Process Engineer Smelting & Refining serves as a senior technical leader and strategic advisor for complex base metals projects within Worleys Mining Minerals & Metals business. This role guides process design strategies mentors teams supports business development and delivers innovative solutions that advance sustainability safety and digital transformation across the asset lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and governance for high temperature processing projects across copper nickel zinc lead and other base metals from concept through to detailed design execution and operations support.
  • Lead and review Concept Studies PreFeasibility Studies (PFS) Feasibility Studies (FS) and technical due diligence including signing off as a Qualified Person (QP) where applicable.
  • Direct process development activities including design basis process design criteria mass and energy balances process and utility flow diagrams P&IDs equipment specifications control philosophies and functional descriptions.
  • Apply advanced process modelling and simulation tools (e.g. METSIM or equivalent) to support design optimization debottlenecking tradeoff studies and asset performance improvement.
  • Lead or support plant audits operational troubleshooting and asset optimization programs to enhance safety reliability throughput and sustainability performance.
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions across the MMM value chain.
  • Contribute to innovation by integrating digital tools datadriven insights and decarbonization strategies into process design and operational solutions.
  • Support project cost estimation activities including OPEX CAPEX and cashflow modelling inputs.
  • Act as a senior technical advisor to clients and support longterm account development.
  • Contribute to business development through proposal support and a sellerdoer mindset.
  • Mentor and develop engineers and technical specialists.

What you will bring:
Technical and Industry Experience:

  • Strong background in process optimization debottlenecking and operational troubleshooting.
  • Proven experience delivering and governing studies projects and operational support engagements.
  • Recognized industry expertise in smelting and refining process engineering for base metals.
  • Experience performing technical due diligence and peer reviews.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong client engagement skills.

Education Qualifications Accreditation Training:

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering Metallurgy or related discipline.
  • Senior-level experience in smelting and refining projects.
  • Operational or plant support experience preferred.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (.) in Canada or eligible.
  • Proficiency with process simulation tools (e.g. METSIM).


For applicants based in the province of Ontario the salary range is $148674 to $198674 CAD.
Application of the pay band: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as the candidates qualifications relevant years of experience geographic location internal pay equity and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
