Job Summary

Provide professional services in psychiatry including psychiatric assessment consultation medication management and referrals to CSULB students.

Incumbent enthusiastically supports the Universitys strong commitment to the academic success of all of our students including students of color students with disabilities students who are first generation to college veterans students and to offer CSULB students a rich variety of expertise perspectives and ways of knowing and learning the quality of campus life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric assessment and medication management to students - Provide initial intake evaluations and follow-up for students referred to psychiatry. Formulation of appropriate ICD diagnosis treatment plan and disposition. Provide medication consultation and intervention as needed.
  • Provide consultation to CAPS staff campus SHS providers CSU faculty/ staff as well as the public both in-person and on the telephone.
  • Provide psychiatric consultation for the wide campus community.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

This appointment is for an 11/12 pay-plan position. The incumbent works 11 months per year and is paid over 12 months.

Salary placement is determined by the education experience and qualifications the candidate brings to the position internal equity and the hiring departments fiscal resources.

  • CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $14419 - $28062 per month.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in providing comprehensive psychiatric services including clinical assessment medication management crisis intervention and psychiatric hospitalization particularly within a young adult population. Candidates should possess a strong foundation in evidence-based care and safe medication protocols with the ability to collaborate effectively with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) Student Health Services (SHS) and other campus partners to support mental health promotion harm reduction and substance abuse prevention initiatives. The role requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written to engage diplomatically with students staff faculty and the broader campus community including in-person and telephone consultations. A commitment to teamwork in a multidisciplinary environment cultural competence and the ability to maintain cooperative and respectful working relationships are essential. Candidates must also demonstrate reliability adherence to safe work practices and basic computer proficiency to support clinical and administrative functions.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies procedures and guidelines including but not limited to safety civility information security and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the universitys commitment to a vision of excellence.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a medical school recognized by the Medical Board of California and completion of one or more residency programs in a specialty appropriate to the assigned duties with increasingly responsible experience in the practice of that specialty.

Licenses / Certificates

Valid and relevant State of California license to practice medicine; current medical board certification appropriate for the assigned duties; valid DEA certificate and number for prescribing controlled substances; and current CPR/AED certification required.

Current and valid Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry before commencement of the position.

CA Drivers License preferred.
