Job Description

Performs skilled work involving generalmaintenanceand repair of municipal buildings. Work involves duties which require the application of journey level mechanical skills as well as basic carpentry plumbing and electrical skills. Primary duties includemaintenanceand repair of heating and air conditioning systems replacing and repairing plumbing and electrical fixtures repairing carpet and performing other generalmaintenancetasks. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed through periodic inspections direct observation and condition of facilities.

GeneralMaintenanceTechnician I:

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificateand One (1) yearexperiencein general buildingmaintenanceor one of the trades;or an equivalent combination of education training and experience. Journey Level competency card in one of the following trades Electrical Heating and Air-Conditioning or Plumbing preferred. ValidFlorida Drivers License required.Training in themaintenanceand repair of heating ventilation and air-conditioning systems desired.

GeneralMaintenanceTechnician II:

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificateand three (3) yearsexperience ingeneral buildingmaintenanceor one of the trades; or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.Must possess Journey Level competency card in one of the following trades Electrical Heating and Air-Conditioning or Plumbing. Valid Florida Drivers Licenserequired. Training in themaintenanceand repair of heating ventilation and air-conditioning systems desired.

Additional Qualifications for Promotion:
Promotions are not to be considered an automatic function of longevity and are subject to the review and authorization of the Supervisor. Employee must possess a journey level competency card in one of the following trades Electrical Heating or Air-Conditioning or Plumbing to be eligible for promotion. The employees last performance review must have resulted in an overall rating of Meets standards or better with no factor rating of less than meets.

If this posting indicates a degree is required the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:

• Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
• Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelors degree;
• Six (6) years of direct experience for a masters degree; or
• Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
