Our goal is to conduct virtual interviews on or around April 24th and 27th and second-round in-person interviews the week of May 11th for an August 13 2026 start date.
This position is responsible for teaching Paramedic/EMT/AEMT classes at the college level. Responsibilities include delivering high-quality instruction using established curriculum and course materials adapting and enhancing instructional strategies to support student learning utilizing effective teaching technologies and learning environments assessing student progress advising students and contributing to the ongoing improvement of curriculum and instruction. Faculty also participate in college service activities at the department school and college levels.
This position reports to the Dean of the School of Human and Protective Services
A faculty member in this position may teach the following courses: EMT AEMT and Paramedic courses such as Anatomy and Physiology Cardiology Pharmacology. Other teaching opportunities may be assigned depending on departmental needs. Most courses are offered in person (day and evening) with some hybrid offerings.
Essential Duties:
-Facilitate student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to fit students needs and support student engagement. Revise curriculum to improve student learning.
-Evaluate student performance and provide regular feedback in courses taught by the instructor.
-Contribute to student success and retention by advising students with course selection career concerns internships and other matters.
-Serve as an advocate for students and engage in activities that help students achieve their goals such as writing letters of recommendation and/or helping students link with internships service learning job shadowing and other forms of networking.
-Provide support to the program the school and the college by attending and engaging in events and meetings and participating fully within the team environment.
-Continually improve teaching through professional development activities and the integration of new techniques and technology. This includes the development and implementation of an individualized professional development plan.
-Maintains a commitment to the college mission vision and values.

-Effective communication skills including demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
-Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. This includes but is not limited to knowledge/experience with current educational methods/strategies such as learner-centered instruction active learning assessment evaluation collaborative techniques and strategies aimed at closing the achievement gaps across race gender class and disability (through inclusive pedagogy).
- Desire and ability to teach courses at both the collegiate transfer and technical/occupational program levels.
-Ability to communicate complex and difficult concepts and ideas to students with varied backgrounds and levels of preparedness.
-Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies techniques and delivery methods as well as incorporating appropriate use of new and emerging technologies into the learning environment.
-Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues on course and program promotion direction and innovation.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience combinations:
Option 1
Bachelors degree in any field
Two (2) years (4000 hours) of related paramedic work experience
OR
Option 2
Associate degree in a related field
Five (5) years (10000 hours) of paramedic work experience
Ability to complete a Bachelors degree in any field within three (3) years of hire (Madison College offers tuition reimbursement)
Additional Required Credentials (both options):
Licensed at the EMT-Paramedic level or higher in Wisconsin
Licensed as a Wisconsin EMS Instructor II or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
At least one (1) year (2000 hours) of occupational work experience must have occurred within the five (5) years prior to the date of hire. This requirement may be waived for candidates with at least two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience in the field within the previous five (5) years.
Experience with or willingness to learn different modes of instruction (online hybrid Classroom Live and modes of the future).
