Hearing and Speech Nova Scotia (HSNS) provides audiology services to Nova Scotians of all ages and speech-language pathology services to preschool children and adults. HSNS is funded by the NS Government to deliver integrated and standardized provincial services across 37 clinical sites located in 26 communities. Nationally certified Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists with support from Communication Disorder Technicians and Administrative Support Professionals provide core services (prevention diagnosis and treatment) develop and monitor provincial clinical standards and collaborate with partners to deliver a number of special programs (e.g. Autism Stroke Cochlear Implant). Established in 1963 HSNS works to prevent and reduce the impact of communication disorders for Nova Scotians.

We are accepting applications for the regular full-time position of Audiologist within the HSNS Preschool Accessibility Innovations Project. This position will provide audiology services within the HSNS sites with parachute services throughout the province. The home base site will be HCC. The successful candidate reports to the assigned Manager and will have a flexible schedule to allow for evening and/or weekend services as required. The position involves regular overnight travel across the province.
Requirements:
-Masters Degree in Audiology
-Nova Scotia College of Audiologists & Speech-Language Pathologists (NSCASLP) licensure or eligible for licensure
-Effective communication skills including proficiency in written and spoken English. If English is not your first language further documents will be required.
-Flexibility in work schedule to provide evening/weekend services
-Flexibility to travel on occasion to attend continuing education events and/or meetings
-Candidate will have to demonstrate current immunization and/or boosters at the end of the probationary period
-Experience with provision of pediatric and adult audiological diagnostic and management procedures in acute and outpatient settings
-Recent knowledge of discipline specific best practices in screening diagnostic and rehabilitative audiologic services
-Experience with hearing aid verification and validation
-Familiarity with all Cochlear Implant systems approved by Health Canada including evaluation counseling fitting troubleshooting as well as post-operative monitoring
-Familiarity with BAHD systems including evaluation counseling fitting and troubleshooting
-Familiarity with assessment procedures for the vestibular system
-Knowledge of discipline specific best practices in assessment and early intervention of young children with developmental disabilities
-Demonstrated commitment to family-centered care
-Flexibility in work schedule to support outreach/parachute services
-Flexibility to travel throughout NS on a regular basis
-Valid Nova Scotia drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle as travel is required
-Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of clients and professionals
Assets:
-Experience working with interprofessional clinical teams and/or working with supportive personnel
-1 year of experience with a mixed caseload
-Experience with provision of services via telepractice
-Experience in provision of outreach clinics
-Experience in providing student supervision
-Ability to communicate in multiple languages in a clinical setting
-Lived experience with a communication difference
-Able to start immediately
-Flexibility for regular travel across the province
