Your Contribution to NRSI
NRSI is looking for a Wetland Practitioner to be based primarily out of our Calgary office. The successful candidate will meet the criteria of and self-designate as an Authenticating Wetland Professional will be skilled in vegetation surveys and with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience ideally in the consulting industry. This position is integral in coordinating and implementing ecological monitoring for various sectors at sites throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan. This position can accommodate hybrid work with a requirement for in-office attendance at least two days per week.

The primary duties and responsibilities for this role include:
- Design coordinate and lead wetland assessments and vegetation monitoring programs;
- Lead Water Act applications and Code of Practice notifications and prepare WAIR and WAIF submissions;
- Provide support to other field work including wildlife surveys;
- Enter and analyze data to determine potential ecological impacts;
- Prepare detailed reports following applicable regulations and policies;
- Recommend site-specific mitigation measures and opportunities to minimize potential impacts;
- Have knowledge and familiarity with provincial and federal policies and legislation;
- Attend client and agency meetings industry conferences and public information sessions;
- Prepare detailed proposals budgets and work programs;
- Highly motivated individual comfortable working independently and as part of a team; and
- Willing and able to travel and conduct regular multi-day field monitoring exercises sometimes in remote locations inclement weather and in a variety of environmental conditions.
Your Education:
- A diploma or degree in Biology or Environmental Sciences. Similar educational experience will also be considered.
- Self-designation or immediate eligibility as an Authenticating Wetland Professional in Alberta;
- Designation as a Professional Biologist (.) in Alberta;
- Minimum of 5 years of experience including a minimum of 3 years conducting wetland assessments in Alberta;
- Strong vegetation identification skills including demonstrated experience leading rare plant surveys in a variety of habitat types;
- Knowledge and familiarity with provincial and federal guidelines and monitoring protocols particularly those that apply to wetland and vegetation assessments;
- Experience with project management including client and agency correspondence reporting and impact assessments;
- Experience preparing proposals project schedules and budgets;
- A valid drivers license;
- Over 21 years old in order to drive a rental vehicle; and
- Regular presence at the Calgary office location.
- Applied experience working within Alberta and/or Saskatchewan including specific experience designing and implementing wetland assessments and vegetation inventories; and
- Experience leading complex ecological tasks as part of a multi-disciplinary team including coordinating multi-season field studies preparation of comprehensive monitoring reports assessing potential impacts and making appropriate recommendations for mitigation measures to minimize identified impacts.
