Who we are

Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time overseeing and evolving Ontarios electricity market engaging with government municipalities and Indigenous communities and planning for Ontarios future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in driving grid innovation protecting the system from threats advancing the provinces energy conservation programs and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources well need in the decades to come.


This is a non-unionized position that falls within the Org Design and Client Relations Division in the Human Resources Business Unit. You will collaborate with HR teams to align health safety and disability-related programs with organizational priorities ensuring compliance and fostering a culture of well-being that supports the IESOs mission of delivering reliable and sustainable energy.

What youll do

In this role youll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:

  • Providing specialized technical support for health and safety programs including hazard identification ergonomics emergency management and training
  • Leading disability-related programs by coordinating sick leave and short-term disability claims workplace accommodations and return-to-work plans
  • Developing monitoring and implementing health and safety policies and procedures that embed strategic priorities like psychological health and safety and continuous improvement
  • Conducting risk assessments hazard analyses and safety audits to ensure compliance and recommend corrective actions
  • Supporting Joint Health & Safety Committees and advising stakeholders on legislative requirements and best practices

In a typical day you will:

  • Advise and influence leaders and HR partners on health and safety programs and complex return-to-work/accommodation cases ensuring compliance and proactive solutions
  • Manage third-party disability service providers and WSIB claims to facilitate timely accommodation decisions and effective case resolution
  • Analyze health and safety and disability data to identify trends prepare reports and recommend process improvements to leadership
  • Participate in audits inspections and risk assessments to maintain compliance and drive continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with Joint Health & Safety Committees to monitor workplace trends resolve issues and implement best practices under the Occupational Health and Safety Act

This position was part of a strategic initiative to implement key elements of a health and safety management system such as hazard identification and implement proactive control measures to reduce the risk of workplace injury and illness including rollout of a comprehensive psychological health and safety program.

Role Requirements

Our team consists of experts from diverse backgrounds each bringing their unique perspectives and skills.


To succeed in this role youll need:

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety Disability Management HR Management or a related field
  • Minimum 46 years of experience in health and safety and/or disability management
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation (Ontario Health & Safety Act Industrial Establishments Regulation) Workplace Safety and Insurance Act Ontario Human Rights Code and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act)
  • Demonstrated experience in disability management vendor oversight and program development
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data sets identify trends and present findings through reports and dashboards
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive matters with discretion
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment managing expectations across unionized and management groups
  • Strong communication and influencing skills to provide strategic advice and achieve desired outcomes
  • Professional certifications such as Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Certifed Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) or equivalent are an asset
  • Project management expertise to implement health and safety programs and lead cross-functional initiatives effectively is an asset
